For making composite props I found these PROs and CONs in the forum:
Assembled on Stage: PRO: Can layer other items within object easily. CON: Edit each part one at a time. CON: Reassemble for each project.
Assembled in Composer Mode: CON: Can not layer with other objects. PRO: Edit all parts of object in composer mode. PRO: Can save as one object to reuse (assembly once).
I wish that in a future version all PROs would be combined allowing to save (!) a "layered composite prop" making it unnecessary to reassemble everything for each project. E.g. the most normal thing on earth is that person drives a car and at the end this person would like to open the door (which could easily realized using a deform tool applicable for props and not only characters) and leave the car. This really simple situation makes it necessary to layer other items [props as well as character(s)] within a composite prop. The more complex the composite prop is, the less is anybody motivated to reassemble everything for each project. Especially because one can use only a single scene per project ;-((
