I need to buy a new monitor and would appreciate suggestions. I'm concerned that a widescreen would make Animations appear distorted but don't know for sure. Am also concerned about good color representation. Somewhere I also saw that a matte monitor is preferable over gloss. Size? Any recommendations?

Widescreen won't distort your output.

As far as recommendations, it depends on a few things.

1. Money
2. Space to put it in - some space is limited on desktops
3. Resolution your graphics card can achieve and supply to the monitor. You can of course always upgrade the Graphics card
4. Model of your computer

I would say this: Don't buy from a second hand distributor or any refurbished model. They may work for a while, but you usually get no extended warranty unless you pay for it. Most of the time it only comes with a 30-90 warranty.

I just bought another one this morning after my long-lived 7 year old monitor from HP finally failed. It gave me a warning yesterday when it was hard to get it to display, and it finally died this morning. Luckily I keep a few backups in the garage, or I wouldn't be typing this now.

I understand the output won't be distorted - I was more concerned about what I see. Will a widescreen distort that?

I'm pretty much a hobbyist animator - using CT6 Pro and will be going with CT7 Pro next month, so I don't know how much more technical I need to get... I've heard that getting one with HDMI is a plus - and like I said before, someone said to look for a matte screen as opposed to glossy.

Other than that?
