| Hi everybody,
we're working on a new character for iClone 2/3. It will be a Barbie-like character that works together with CloneCloth. So we will include various clothes to this package too.
But we have a problem here:
Since the production process for this Barbie-Doll is rather complex, we would like to know, if iClone users will need a complete set of charaters. A set where Barbei and Ken and some other dolls are included. Or, is the Barbie itself important enough?
What do you think?
Yours,
Robby |

| | Hi Robby, Great to hear about the new pack(s). A word of caution. I would go easy on the references to a certain child's doll and her male companion. The makers of that particular doll are very hot on copyright and can come down hard on even a mere mention of the name when it is linked to a commercial product.

| Ok,
first of all: thanx for all the relpies!
Alley asked me what kind of character "Barbie" will be (clone-cloth or 3dmax):
The "Barbie"-like doll will be a new avatar (new skin, new face, new body proportions). Yes, it's a clone-cloth model and we're including different clothes in the package as well. So it is both: New avatar and new clone-cloth items.
Some here said, that they can't imagine Barbie without Ken...(Alley stated that they're not together anymore...hmmm...didn't know that actually...damn it! ).
Why do we create this package?
We think, that iClone is the ideal software for such puppet movies. And, moving dolls and dressing them up, playing with them...this is what users do in iClone too. So I can imagine that there are some users out there that would like to have such a set of "Barbie" and/or "Ken"-like dolls to make their own comicstyle videos.
Maybe I'm wrong? What do you think?
davidjosue007 suggested to add a poll and I did it.
Just look in this forum for the poll "Barbie-like character and more?" to tell me what you think about the question: Only Barbie or the entire family?
Have a nice day,
Robby

| Oh yes, thanks Peter, you're absolutely right!
It's rather problematic. We know that and we like to avoid mentioning the brand and/or the registered trademarks of the copyright owners of this legendary blonde. But I didn't know how to call the project we're working on without mentioning the word "Barbie". I'm always trying to use the expression "Barbie-like", because we do not copy the doll as such, but creating something similar... like... Pam Anderson!
Again, thanks for the warning. Maybe I would better say a "Pam Anderson"-like character. That would be less dangerous, I think.
...I hope I don't have to redesign the breasts then...

| | Question - these characters would not then be compatible with the clone cloth?? I think for me, part of the fun of Iclone is creating outfits myself. So that would be my only concern. Are you planning to create the characters with several different outfits? If you are appealing to "Mom's" to create stories for their daughters, then remember to dress Barbie appropriately. If you create a character too Pamela Anderson "like", then it really is no longer "B*****" like anymore. I guess it all depends on what sort of buyer you are appealing to. I have actually been curious about this for a while. Perhaps Peter could enlighten us. Are sales of female characters directly related to amount of female "cleavage" - one might think so, based on the first G3 release character set.

| Hi Alley,
first of all: Our new characters all work together with CloneCloth! So, "Barbie" and/or "Pam" will too. BUT: unfortunately we don't have CloneCloth Developer Resources for iClone 3 yet! So we can't offer our chars for iClone 3, because we don't know how it will work under iClone 3. We don't want to sell products, that can't be 100% tested and verified concerning functionality and quality. If you're using iClone 2 everything's groovy. But we can't offer our characters for iClone 3.
Anyway, I hope RL comes up with the developer stuff for iClone 3 very soon!
We will include clothes for "Barb", but only clonecloth technique, because it's much better.
Hmm...what you say is interesting: What kinda buyer are we appealing to? Maybe "Pam" would be a bigger success then?
And to think about all of the "women's-lib" stuff: We won't forget to sell "Ken"-like chars too!
But what we like to have, is one or more doll characters with that typical plastic look. I'm really curious about what people think about our first "Pam-Barb Wire" (or whatever) Package!
I've to say goodbye now for a while, 'cause I'm on vacation next week. I'll be back (like Arnold would say). Ah, yes: I'll be back on Sept. 9th.
So long,
Robby

| Oh, I was thinking that the characters look like Barbie-dolls be default already. Would be more interested in some realistic characters.

| Hi BeruPly,
yes, you're right! We're not quit sure what we should do with the "Barbie"-project. I absolutely agree: Especially the iClone 3 characters should be "polished" here and there.
We've experimented with professional textures from Poser and/or DAZ characters like Victoria 4. This really applies much more realism to the iClone actors. One problem is the copyright and the other is that the uv-spaces are different. This really sucks.
But...we're working on it.
First of all we have to finish our "livingroom"-project.
CU,
Rob |
