machstudio will import objects with fbx, but not animation.

I also heard that the sketchup exporter for machstudio even works
for the free version.


1 FBX imports how ? I have looked ?

2 I have tried putting the exporters into Sketchup free version with no luck ... so if there is a way I would like to know how ....

for installing the sketchup plugin , I recommend asking Rayman on this thread:

on the united3dartists forum. I haven't tried it yet.

For fbx import, try this: On Menu Bar : Create -> Load Objects -> point to your fbx file

So how do you get animated objects in? Do you still have to use DirectX or a certain importer?

Man it's kinda funny. I remember when DX11 was first released and I was asking who was going to get the new line of GFX cards that supportred it. Everyone was all skeptical about it... now everyone's got one but me! WTF!? 0.o

Please post more results if you can. I'd like to see some videos of this in action.

You have to have one of those exporter plugins to get animated objects in.
The only possibility, AFAIK, is a blender exporter. That's why I'm trying to get
this script installed in blender 2.49b.

Thanks tyler for the info on the FBX import.

Time to find out what post work can do to put iClone and MachStudio together Will have to color/light match the outputs to not see a glaring difference. Just hope post work won't diminish the MachStudio render.

the fbx exporter is only for static objects (its mentioned in their website). I dont know why because fbx format does support animation and camera export. As far as light matching it should not be an issue at all, The beauty is that iclone and MGP are both realtime. I think the camera matching is going to be the issue for those who do not have something like matchmover or syntheyes. If you do have access to those software the pipeline is simple.

1) animate your characters and camera in iclone. (use dummy objects for reference location. For example place a cube where a table would be etc, also create a chrome dome for lighting reference.)
2) render image sequences , one with dummy props for camera tracking software, one for character beauty pass.
3) render shadow pass
4) In maya or max, bring camera tracking info and markers(highly recommended for matching object position) if you made any.
5) after all models are in place in your favorite 3d app export to MGP.
6) do the lighting and texture tweaking there.
7) composite iclone character beauty pass with MGP background and them add the shadow pass.

While I understand StuckOn's pipeline, I still think it'd be a little complex when characters are interacting directly with props.
