Why Use Wings3D for iClone? It's Powerful!!! It's Free!!!
It's an immediate bonus to all iClone users to enjoy free 3d modeling for iClone2. Wings3D includes full 3D modeling features similar to the classical 3D modeling tool Nendo form Izware. It also comes with powerful features for UV Map generation which allows precise UV mapping for iClone users.
Create 3D Models for iClone
Full-featured low-polygon modeling software with sub-division capability - download Wings3d pdf manual - Wings3D Basics - see basic editing features for 3d modeling - Wings3D user interface - an overview of Wings3D editing tools
Essential Polygon Editing Commands - Vertex, Face, Object - Vertex : move, extrude, bevel, flatten (along x,y,z), tighten, - Deform : Crumple, Taper, Twist, Torque - Face: move, extrude (normal, region) , intrude, inset, bevel, bridge, bump, flatten - Object: move, tighten, smooth (subdivision), uv map generation, weld vertex, combine, separate
Others - Edge Smoothness: distinctively assign soft or hard edges to selected targets
- input 3D Text - Vertex color, unfortunately not be able to export vertex color data in 3ds and OBJ
Generate the UV Map for iClone - define the texture UV layout for precise texture mapping AutoUV
- Segment UV Map by Selected Faces - Segment UV Map by Selected Edges
>> Video tutorial - how to generate UV map
- Simple Barrel UV mapping by Peter Chovanec (Wings3D AutoUV) - UV mapping small videos for Strata3D - the same procedure to generate UV map for iClone - UV Mapping with Wings3D - Step-by-step for Basic Human Head UV Generation
Limitations:
Wings3D can import 3DS, OBJ, VRML, and some other 3d file formats. However, Wings3D is designed perfectly for low polygon modeling, not appropriate to handle large 3d models which exceeds 5000 polygons.
