| Will iclone3 offer better (or any) import options from Poser and Maya than it did with iclone2.5?
In our office, we are using Maya 2008, Poser 7 and Vue 6 and want to use iClone as the application to put them altogether in scenes we are creating for our graphic novels. (At this point we aren't using iclone for animation. I take a screenshot of the scene and paste it into Photoshop, add text bubbles, and walaaa! Our graphic novel.)
Is there a process for bringing the characters, props and scenery into iClone created from these applications? |

| Why would you want to use Iclone for an application like that? I mean Vue, Poser, and Maya all have much better rendering options for single frame renders. Iclone is made for real time animation. Poser and Vue objects have way too many polys to be used on any regular basis in Iclone - however Poser and Vue and Maya all have object export...Iclone can import via 3D exchange. There is also a Maya export plug-in so any flow through Maya should work fine.
I don't know why you would even want to use Maya in this case - Poser and Vue should be enough. Also I would take a look at another Smith Micro product - Manga Studio
http://my.smithmicro.com/win/manga/index.html
It has all the text Baloon options you would need.
BTW I hope that Iclone NEVER has Poser character or Vue scene export. That would encourage people to import huge assets that will only ruin Iclones RT performance, and thus give the program a bad name.

What an odd answer. To hope that Iclone never imports poser or vue assets. Poser has some low poly characters like their toon characters which would look great in Iclone. Plus, if you can model, you can import your low poly model into Poser and rig it. It's silly not to be able to export to Iclone from any package, just don't exceed a certain poly count.
I mean, why should super expensive packages like 3d Max or Maya be the only way to create new, rigged characters for Iclone?
And to answer the original question:
Yes, you can export from Vue or Poser to Iclone. Just use Iclone's 3DXchange 2. |
