| I use the Clone Cloth but I'm not a big fan of it because I don't know how to keep it from stretching clothing/textures I apply to it. The two attached images demonstrate. The original uniform is how it should look, but when I apply the image to the clone cloth I get the stretching and distorting of the texture so badly that I can't use it. Even the buttons are distorted.
Is there a technique that the pros use to keep this from happening? I go look at some of the military uniforms applied to the avatars (in the iclone store) and they look just about perfect. How do they do it? It can't be with clone cloth, can it?

| Hi, in the clone cloth, you have to compensate for that stretching. It looks like you have it applied to the Thor body, which probably stretches it more than the Jack body. I find that you have to make adjustments to real clothes. i.e. placement of a pocket. It's a lot of trial and error. Placing it and continually checking back in Iclone. Sometimes you must skew the buttons so that when applied to the iclone figure, they appear normal. Because you are working with a photo, it will involve creating additional layers, some cloning and some copy and pasting. And continually previewing the result in Iclone.
If there is a magic formula, I don't know what it is. Except over time, you get to know/remember some of the issues.
You have to remember that you are working with a front and a back, but they must wrap around the body.
The military that you buy (the four by Reallusion) is not from clone cloth. The military found in the Store under the Combo pack tab was designed by a CCD Developer and I suspect that uses the clone cloth and the designer would have had to compensate in his designs for this "stretch" that happens. Have a look at these two photos - the final pant suit pocket, how it looks on Jane and compare to the Diffuse Upper. The pocket and buttons, were resized, by trial and error til I got it right, so that when applied to the model they would appear normal.
I hope this was helpful.

| Yes, helpful thank you, but not pleasing to hear.
Thank you for the reply. Nice job on the placement and sizing of the pockets and details.
We might have to go to Poser and see if that is an easier program to fit clothes on a character.
Thanks again.

| Are you saying you will create clothes in Poser for use in Iclone?
(good luck with this, it is even harder - hehe)
Or are you saying you will do your dressing and animation in Poser?
(you'll need all the time in the world to wait for the renders. And...making clothes in poser is pretty complicated).
Also - did you see Cricky's response on Cool Clones about texture resolutions and how those can affect the stretching?
ADDED - If you just persevere, and get real familiar with photoshop, it isn't that hard? Six months ago I didn't have a clue...now, it is so much easier.

| You can't really compare Iclone and Poser...they are targeted towards different types of uses and users.
Iclone is designed for animated (realtime) movie making, and thus there a compromises in its design that favor performance over photoreal style rendering accuracy.
Poser. while having many animation capabilities has been developed over the years with an emphasis on still frame rendering quality.
That is not to say that Iclone could not use some tools for more texture manipulation...
