Hi.
I'm running a project which will require some scenes showing a little blood (and on occasion a lot), and I want to make it as realistic as possible.
Can anyone advise me of your best methods please?

Both blood spatter from cuts/shots and running blood on floor and clothes required.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Gizmo how are you? You can use one of the Planes from the props and then mask it to make your opacity to any shape you want then color it "Blood". Use your time line and positions to put it / move it in your scene.
Hope this helps - Jo

Hi Jo. I'm good - thanks for asking. I'll will certainly try your method, which now seems an obvious step in the right direction and should be a usefull addition to my iCloning. However without sounding ungratefull to you I'm really looking for a more 'fluid' and realistic blood if at all possible. i.e. running from clothes to floor, etc.
Any other suggestions out there? Cheers guys/gals.

Gizmo same idea with plane you make your shapes then put then on a shirt for instance at say frame 30 then move position at frame 60 the blood will run down the shirt.
Say for a growing puddle of blood on the floor, put the shape-puddle under the floor at frame 30 then at frame 60 in the timeline on the top of the floor - the blood will move up. you can play with the position to make it look like it is Spreading Hope this helps better
There was a that about candle wax running here on the forum , I'll try to find it for you.

Hi All. Just trying to keep this topic alive. Has anyone else any more suggestions to obtain fairly realistic blood spatter/running blood etc? Jo's idea above does work well but a few more irons in the fire would be good.

I found some great Cinema SFX Quicktime Movies and .png's (blood, bullet holes, explosions, fog and smoke, etc) that can be added to iClone movies with your video editors if anyone is interested at:

Cheers.

The most effective way to produce blood effects is to use external programs and layers.

Some examples:-

These are animated in "The Movies", effects added in "After Effects" and edited with "Windows Movie Maker". I know because I've already spoken to Michael Barnes about these

I attempted this effect in my first short "The Sword Dance":-

I will be adopting a more thorough approach of these effects with "The Forgotten Children".

How is this done?

You need to create your animation, with post production in mind.

A. Create your animation (i.e. Character shoots another Character)
B. Export scene with no characters.
C. Export Character 1, blue screen.
D. Export Character 2, blue screen.
E. Import the 3 files into "After Effects" (or similar) and colour key out blue screen.
F. Import and implement blood effects on and around the layers, so the blood appears in front and behind the characters.
G. Final touches, depth of field, colour burn, colour correction, camera shake etc.
H. Export final SFX file.

Hope this helps

P.S. Any more help just PM me

Hi Cape. Thanks for the information supplied and your time in gathering said information.
I think I have After Effects somewhere - but I have never used it. (Only discovered iClone and animation Christmas 08).
Up till now I have tried to complete all my effects in iClone alone - and just assembled in VideoStudio. This has of course to date and in realality been proven somewhat impossible - although I won't stop trying just yet - and I find myself looking at other software add ons as I mentioned above.

I will try out the technique you outlined. Thank you.

P.S. Thanks for your constructive comments on The Orb of Light VI. My inspiration for that was in fact 'The Sword Dance'.
