I'll try to keep this brief, but for me that may not be saying much.
I recently completed my latest 2D project, and have decided I want to finally go back and do my Camp Handiba project. Some of you may recall I started work on this as a VN, and then last year was looking at doing it in iClone before a family medical emergency caused me to stop work for the time being.
Having just done a 2D work, I was planning on using some manipulated photo backgrounds (I have gigs of photos I've taken), and then posing the iClone character designs I had created last year in front of them. For some reason (probably due to my being in my mid-40s), it didn't occur to me that I might just want to do the whole thing in iClone. So I started looking into the options, and realized it might be possible. I've attached a partial cast picture in the 3D forest I do have (which I suspect could serve as the basis for a number of items in the list).
The problem (as it has been with every tool) is finding enough of the stuff I need for sets to avoid having to do a lot of independent modelling. While I appreciate iClone having 3Dxchange, I don't want to have to use it. Yes, I'm lazy, but I also know I'm not an artist. If I was, I'd probably be using Anime Studio Pro
So, below is a list I pulled from my 13 episodes of 10-minute scripts (first season). I need to know which package in the store, or what freebie pack might contain what I need for each. For the interior scenes, they need to be recognizably different, and will need some props that are appropriate (beds for the bedrooms, tables for the dining hall, etc). Before I decide to go full 3D, I'd need to be fairly certain that most of these are obtainable. Thanks in advance for bothering to read this, and for any help you might be able to provide.
Location/Set list:
External Dirt Parking Lot with Handicapped Van
External Main Lodge Front
External Path in Woods (level)
Exterior Path in Woods (footbridge)
Exterior Path in Woods (by lake)
Exterior Path in Woods (fork in path)
Exterior Lakeside Dock with Canoes
Exterior Cabin 3-A (Zoe and Jenny)
Interior Cabin 3-A (Zoe and Jenny)
Interior Cabin 1-B Upstairs (Scott and Becca)
Interior Cabin 1-B Downstairs (stairs) (Scott and Becca)
Interior Lodge Great Room
Exterior Lodge Side
Exterior Crafts Building
Interior Crafts Building
Exterior Mess Hall
Interior Mess Hall (Overall, and then three tables and a serving line)
Exterior Women Counselor's Cabin
Exterior Shakota Island (Beach)
Interior Cave (Entrance)
Interior Cave (Small room)
Interior Cave (Large room)
Interior Cave (Stone Altar and Two Stone benches)
Interior Cave (Painting)
Exterior Campfire (Benches)
Exterior Campfire (Stage)
Exterior Small Pool (by Waterfall)
Exterior Beach by Lake
Exterior Beach by Lake with party tent and fire pit
Exterior On the Water (swimming)
Again, thanks for your time and assistance!

| Hi Ewan, In reality I don't think you will find everything you have listed in ready made packs so you might need to compromise a little. The exterior scenes could be handled well by The World Wilderness Packs 1 and 2. These packs cover almost every possible type of outdoor scene with liveplants for added realism. For the interior scenes you may find much of what you need in packs like the Dungeon Quest packs. I think your best bet would be to spend a little time going through the packs in the Content Store and seeing what fits the bill for your needs. http://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/default.aspx One final thing about 3DXchange. Although you have said you don't want to use it, you may want to give it a trial run sometime because it really isn't a complicated or time consuming piece of software. You can convert props and scenes in minutes and with built in access to Google 3D Warehouse you have thousands of ready made props just ready to go.

Actually I was one of the beta testers for the product. I have a library of objects that it kept rejecting because they were too detailed, and the 3D Warehouse items came in as "single" objects. The second issue is a problem because if you bring in a 3D Warehouse model of a forest with a tent, none of the trees or the tent can be moved because they are all treated as "one" object, even though SketchUp treats it as a collection of objects. Yes, you can bring everything into SketchUp, modify it there, then import it - but that becomes a bit tedious. Then there's adding the appropriate texture, scaling the item, etc.
As for the content store - perhaps if it were organized using keywords better. For example, my first scene requires a clearing in a forest, a dirt road leading to the spot, and a handicapped van that one of the characters has just gotten out of. I have Pack 1 of the Wilderness Set, and I think I can put in the road, but which pack (if any) has a van with a lift? Heck, it isn't even easy to tell which pack (if any) has a full sized van. Which is why I was hoping someone who was familiar with the contents of the packs might be able to direct me to which ones I need to purchase. I'm also open to offers of paying someone to setup my sets - although this is a free production, so I don't have THAT much cash.
FWIW,
Ewan

Hi Ewan, I'm not sure what models you have tried to bring into iClone but most detailed Google Warehouse models can be broken down into smaller groups or single objects in 3DXchange before exporting to iClone if you wish. For example if your scene had a few trees and a tent you could deselect everything from the scene but the tent and export that into iClone. Then do the same one by one with the trees. Once you are done you will have separate props in iClone that you can combine and position any way you want. You are not forced to export everything as one object if you don't want to.
