Hi
I´m very new at iClone, but I´m a experient user at 3D programs.
What atract me in iClone is the simplicity.
The program is simply and funcional what i can see till now.The max export work very well and the facial animation is good.
The motion editor don´t have layers to combine motions but is simple and do the job fast, and have what I need.
BUt... the bvh converter just don´t work!
There is a lot of free motions in the net.I want to use them.
I spend the last 2 days trying have a poor walk bvh motion inside the stage. And Ididn´t have sucess.
This is don´t combine with the program workflow and simplicity.
Either the prf that came with iClone 2.5 don´t work with the files ( Motek, Animazoo and Poser.)
The interface in the converter is ridiculous. You can´t see absolutely what are you doing.
A better interface is a first pass to solve the problem.
How the realillusion solve this problem in iClone 3 ?
best
Alemar

| Hi, With iClone 3.0 still under development and the final features not yet finalized I can't say if there will be improvements to the BVH Converter in the next version. The problem we all have with the converter is that there are just os many different types of BVH motions out there. For example some will contain data for fingers which iClone does not support and these often cause the converter to crash. It would be great to have a BVH Converter that could handle all these different files and filter out incompatible parts but this isn't an easy process to achieve at present. As more details of the final features of iCone 3.0 are unveiled I'll be sure to let you know about where we are with the BVH Converter in IC3.

Hi Pete
Thank you to answer my post.
Sorry, but rarely a mocap body capture fingers moviments. When this happen is a partuicular case and have sensors just to capture hands moviments. If you open a string of a bvh file in a text editor you can see ... I never see fingers hierarchy.
I know there is imcompatibles files and this happen in many softwares include motion builder, max and maya.
But this is not the case here. Many files the bvh converter simple dont want convert.I´m not a coder but I can easy compare bvh files in a text editor.99% has the same estruture and just difere in names to the hierarchys. Some of them have others hierarchiys that invalidy the import or a string in a different order.
The BVH importer rarely crash with me. it dont import or import wrong.
I can import mocaps with the .prf provide by realillusion, but always they are wrong .The mocaps are free from Motek, poser, animazoo and they dont work well and the mocap imported distort the avatar body.
The problem always are the bones offsets. And the problem is the tool that realillusion provide to solve this dont work.
what I propose here is realillusion give to us a decent interface to adjust the offsets bones. If could work in a window where I could see what I´m doing.Know how the feets or necks and heads are in front of, We could find a easy solution for many files.
Another simple idea with easy solution: 1 } import the valid files to motion editor 2} break the first frame and delet the rest of the clip.3} adjust the bones offsets ( the offsets to x,y, z ) in edit mode with the manequin in Motion Editor, 4} generate and save a a prf file from the manequim inside motion editor with the correct offsets now. 5] delete the first frame and reinport the mocap.
All tools are there! I can´t believe this is a hard job...
I really want to know how the iClone 3 solve this question......if I have a single layer to adjust bones offsets is a dream but this is a hard job I think...July is the month yet? When we have a official date?
best

| Hi Alemar, Your points are well made. I too would dearly love to see a BVH Converter that converted a higher percentage of files than it currently does. I was just trying to point out the problems of differing BVH motions. I have to correct you on one thing. Fingers are indeed included in some BVH motion files along with toes and even eyes. If you take a look at some sample images taken from a fairly common BVH file you will see what I mean. You may not have come across these type of files yourself but they are out there. Opening this particular BVH file will cause the converter to crash.
