| I'm having a wierd problem; when I create the riding motion for my characters, I've noticed that the 3d background moves with them in the same direction - making the scene unnatural - what am I overlooking? When I do want the 3d motion to move, why not in the opposite direction? It looks like when my riders ride off into the sunset - the saguaro's move WITH them. When I try to control the 3d scene - the vegetation doesn't go with it. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

| Hi, Are you using the Character Position panel under Modify to move your character? You use this panel and the Timeline to setup movement across a scene. When done this way only the character will move and not the 3D scene. See if this helps resolve the problem.

| When a 3d background is present in the scene, yes I do use the character position. I will then select my character and use the timeline (or the horse prop) so once I've selected a pre-existing motion, I use the timeline in conjunction with the character position to get my horse to gallop across the scene. I've also tried NOT having a 3d background present - do all the work then add a 3d motion - the 3d background moves in the same direction as the horse does. Suggestions?

Hmmm interesting. Try this simple example. Start with the default character on the screen and add the Cathedral 3D Scene. Turn the character 180 degrees so she is facing away from you. Add the Walk Normal motion to the character and she will begin walking on the spot. Now open up the Timeline and with the character selected move to frame 300. Now use the Character Position settings to move the character down towards the altar 1000. (this will set a keyframe on frame 300) Now play the scene and Jane should walk down the aisle towards the altar at a brisk pace with the 3D scene static as you would expect. Does this work for you? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't. Let me know how you get on and we'll go from there.

That's not quite how I was doing it - so, I'll give this a whirl and see if it works better for me with both the scene and character you mention. Usually it' happens in my horse ride - I'lll have the desert or pasture 3d scene and r-click the motions for my horse to ride off into the sunset (I would position the horse in the correct position within the prop editor. I'll be darned if the saguaro's don't keep pace with the horse! But, I'll carefully try your steps as you've outlined them and see what happens with my horse props too Thanks for getting back to me

I wanted to give you an update - it's taken me a while to get back to creating the kind of scene to duplicate my problem and apply your remedy (tons of computer problems lately). I created a scene (not yet posted) where I've got my character riding off in the sunset within a 3d terrain - being careful to only use the editor and not otherwise move my mouse around - the 3d terrain stayed put while my character rode away. It seems I want to have my cake and eat it too for ease of use with the mouse. It did work, so thank you so much for all your help.

Thanks for updating us with your situation. I'm really pleased to hear you have been able to get the movement you wanted. It can take a while to master the timeline editor but once you do its powerful features can give great results. Good luck with your future projects.
