Hello,

I recently bought an nvidia 8800 gts and I'm having problems with self cast shadows. Does anyone else here have that card and had any problems with that type of shadows? And yes I already talked to tech support and they were not able to help me and yes I do have the latest drivers.

This really bites because I bought the nvidia card so that I can use Selfcast shadows. So any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a gtx 8800 and my driver version is
6.14.11.6938 and iclone runs stable for me.. and i have no issues with shadows.. i dont know if this helps. Even if there was a newer version of drivers for my card i wouldnt take the chance to install them.. as all works good for me

i have a nvidia geforce 8600mgs

i seen your question and thought i play around with lights

i'm still learning iclone, so i didn't really know the difference between a drop shadow and a self cast shadow.

with only the default scene up ( girl in gray background ) i can see the drop shadow ...then put it too self casting ..pop it was gone ...i thought it wasn't working either...then i changed the scene and there it was ...hmm i went back to the default scene and it was not there....i put a carpet prop down ..there it was ..whew

thanks for asking ..now i know the difference...

sorry it that doesn't help you, it might be a driver thingy or your settings for the display

Hey Musicaz,

are you sure, because at first glance, on my machine everything looks fine with shadows but those are backdrop shadows, in order to see selfcast shadows you have to turn them on in the custom settings and check the box labled receive shadows. One good test is using the sun dial default scene that comes with Iclone. Does the shadow on the sundial move when you move the light?

I'll try reverting to an older driver and see if that helps me.

thanks

Hello reallusion,

since it does not look like you can solve my problem with my 8800 gts card, can you please give me the name of a fast  nvidia card that you know for sure selfcast shadows work. I'm working on the contest entrie and I believe that using selfcast shadows will make a world of difference. No pun intended.

thank you,

Stuckon3d

Hi Stuck,

Just as a matter of interest when you run the Envirioment Checker does it say Yes or No for Self Cast Shadows?

I personally use a Nvidia 7950GT and I get Self Cast Shadows. Maybe some your graphic settings have been changed from the default. Have you tried running the Nvidia Control Panel and making some changes to the settings?

First thing to try is select the option to Let the 3D Application Decide the 3D settings. If this is already selected or doesn't make a difference you could move to the Manage 3D Settings options. Only make small changes one at a time and check to see if there is a difference. Also make a note of what you are changing so you can set it back if need be.

I really don't see why an 8800GTX would not be able to offer Self Cast Shadows so trying a few more things to resolve this is worth a go.

Good luck.

Pete

Hi  pete,

thanks for your prompt response and to answer your question, yes I tried every possible option under the sun, every feature, I even uninstall drivers and cleaned my drive from any driver leftover from my previous card and then reinstalled the newest drivers from nvidia. And no luck, It is an Iclone thing, becuase all my other apps work great with this card. SO anyhow, until they fix that problem with the newer 8800 gt series cards, I'm willing to buy an older card just to get the self cast shadows, but I want to make sure that they seen it working properly it and that the card has please of texture ram.

Thank you,

Cris

Just to let you guys know I just purchased 9800gtx card and it has the same selfcast shadows issues as my 8800 gts card. It creates them but it puts them on the wrong place in the geometry. REallusion should take a look at these cards and make sure that the lastest cards are trully compatible with their software. Specially since iclone 3 is coming out soon.

PS: all my other 3d software and games work great with these cards. thanks.
