first of all, sorry if my english... isn´t the best.

I created this post because i think Machinima has became serious in the latest years, with tools lke Iclone or Moviestorm and the arrival of free 3d software like blender and let´s not forget the pre-production tool called Celtx. Many of us have thought about (and some are already doing it) making money while having fun...that´s what we all would like to do for shure.

So, i thought it would be fun if we use this topic to talk about that. Who is doing it and how? What markets would benifit from our Machinima? Let´s find inventive ideas on how to apply our Machinima knowledge and share it with others. I myself got a job thanks to a machinima tool and i´ll you all about in my next post as i have to go out right know...but please start posting your ideas and storys. It should be a fun topic.

Where have you been, asleep! The Entire Machinima Market is "Flooded" with content. The Only room left is for 'True Artist' and 'Animatiors.' Which they use this as a side hobby as they elevate their skills to the CG Community!

What reveloutionary idea are you proposing or expect to see? I was viewing various content avaiable, i.e. Turbo Squid, Daz, and a few others. Those content stores are even MORE flooded than RL. I saw some creation packs selling for $400 and even $500 bucks a pack.

THAT'S INSANE! Good Luck!

Is CG Cinemagraphics?

Also, the first time I ever hit the word Machinema I thought John martin invented it as he used it in a talk I watched at the time of 1.x iCLone. And this referenced people making movies screengrabbing WarGames as their stage.

Is Machinema that? War Style Animation??? or, as I would imagine, does it actually define Machines making Cinema movies and so ANY topic is Machinema?

's a stupid question but I learn best from those.
I have many more just like it!

sw00000p, maybe it´s my english...i said it isn´t the best. I´m not proposing anything. I just wanted to start a debate on ideas or creating a place where people could tell the story´s of how they use machinima for money while having fun with it. I can´t really understant your answer or it´s tone...i wasn´t being rude and have no interest in starting any kind of argument. If the problem was my english i apologize and hope you can understant what i mean.

And here is my story and how Machinima helped me to get a job:

I´m a sports jornalist and i worked for many diferent places (TV, radio, online, newspapers and magazines) but, about one year and a half ago, i got unemployed. Before i was a jornalist i worked as a video editor and cameraman and later i was a tv news director, so i decided to start making video reports as a freelance for the web.

I was at that time a beta tester for a Machinima tool called Moviestorm and i decided to make a proposal to the biggest portuguese sports newspaper (called " A BOLA"): Making news flashes for the web presented by a virtual characters and mixed with video or photos.

I made some tests and they loved the idea. Today those news flashes are very succesfull and i got the job at the newspaper where i also make other video reports, interviews with football stars and other projects for the website. Machinima saved my day...and i think that´s a happy story.

So, you see. Ideas can make things happen. I´m not talking about designing 3d content for money...that´s also great, but i belive that road is already taken for much better artists than i could ever been. I´m talking about discussing other ideas of uses for Machinima and sharing our experiences with our friends icloners...or moviestormers

In its orginal definition Machinima is making movies using game engines.  It doesn't have to be war-like, it could be someting less violent like Sims.  The one characteristic, though, is the real-time element of the film-making, which may mean that you need several "handlers' to control the action of the characters.  To educate myself, I recently bought the book "Machinima for Dummies". One of the authors is one of the inventors of the term "Machinima", so he should know.

How to make money with all this?  One of the complaints I've read regarding Machinima is the lack of a strong story in many of the productions.  So, I guess, if you want to make money, you better have a good story.

ileao,

My appologies. I seriously thought you were talking about making money selling content.

Evidently, your experience and knowlege warrants a more Professional approach! Perhaps conversing directly with... i.e. RL Team, Turbo Squid or Daz. This may be where you belong or even Higher!

Think-Tanking here will only produce 'Babble.'

well as they say content in king -

look at south park - if i saw it for the first time i would say not very good animation but hey they had stories/ scripts that people liked

i approach this from a fun perspective - i enjoy putting scenes and stories together - if someone thinks it is worth money, then it is icing on the cake as it allows me to purchase additional packs/ contents

last year i was approach my a company called Metanetwork News to produce a 20 minute weekly news program for second life, at that time MNN was sorta the CNN of second life (so they told me)

Warlord and I produced 7 of these episodes -but it was not fun, meeting a weekly deadline was a chore, and a bore. so despite getting paid for it, there was no satisfaction

Armstrong, here is a link to one of the newsflashes i produce for the online version of A BOLA newspaper...its in portuguese so you will probably not understand it. This one exemple , was wahtched 28 704 times, but we have some who had more than 60 000 viewers and others that got no more than 2000...it depends on the subject (and we publish at least two or three different news flashes a day). I animate the presenter and the cameras with moviestorm, the scenery was all custom made and the voice of the presenter is my own recorded with Adobe Soundbooth. Then i edit in Adobe Premiere Pro. I´m now teaching a girl and she´s already making the voice for a woman version. I´m thinking about trying iclone in the future, now that i´m learning this wonderful tool...and loving it.

yeah, aknzrdude i can relate to what you mean about getting tired of meeting deadlines and all that...that happens when it stops being just fun and starts to be a job. But there´s nothing we can do about that, unless trying to find new angles so that we can recicle our fun.

sw00000p, it´s all good, thanks for your reply. I guess my english didn´t help too. Cheers.
