Please move if this message is in the wrong place, but I wandered over to that OTHER human animation forum and checked their Free Software section.

I'm afraid I don't have any other reason to visit these days . . .

I found this: Organica 3D.

Woo hoo. Now--if you own 3DXchange--you can make more "organic" forms than the 3D primitives which are SO GRACIOUSLY provided by Reallusion.

Twisted, curvy, etc. Export the mesh to .3ds and suck it into 3DX; then you've got .vns for iClone.

You're welcome!

Thanks for that really useful freebie link Paumanok West.

What impressed me was that within just a few moments after download a non-techie like myself could start to tweak the shape of “organic” primitives. The 77 page pdf user guide has clear well illustrated instructions and a tutorial section which I'm sure will merit my further study. Perhaps a future version of IClone will allow the manipulation of such shapes from within the program itself but until then this seems a valuable alternative.

Nice one.

Geoff.

Thank you for that - looks interesting.  I tried it and managed to output a shape which was useful.

The proof is in the pudding.

Look how quickly I was able to start beefing Dylan up.

When completed, these muscles would actually be animatable!

I added more muscles after the work in progress snapshot above.

As one might expect, this naive way of working began to throw too many polygons at iClone for efficient work--because the hidden portions of objects were never removed.

Someone working in 3D Max, I'm sure, would be able to remove the unneeded surfaces.

But I dragged down the software.

However, I kept going anyway, and finally produced this experimental result.

The only thing to add is to point out how impressive this would be if I had a group of animators willing to actually animate muscle contractions for me!

Sorry, my mistake. Apparently the muscle suit does not load down the system at animation time!

Plays fine.

I'm in heaven!

After these graphic examples, I probably don't need to do any more "hard sell" to get you to try Organica, if you have 3DXChange to use with it.

But I will, anyway.

It's REALLY useful to make odd shapes that would otherwise require something like 3DS Max.

Very cool, for free!

I agree with the fellow who said it might be nice for RL to clone this functionality for its product line.

hi, Paumanock West..thanks for the link for Organica 3D...I'm always interested in trying out 3D modelling/animation programs...I opened Organica n I built this little goose in about 3 minutes...then I took him to Amorphium 3 and smoothed and painted him...converts easily to .vns....I just need to figure out how to get his diffuse and opacity maps exported from Amorphium..(I'm still new to Amorphium) .and I'll probaly add some wings that'll actually flap eventually...but was just experimenting with Organica for now.

...again, thanks for the link.

(p.s....if iClone ever adds a 3D model/sculping feature I hope it has smoothing and painting options..that would really be the ultimate dream come true, to be able to actually build our complete models right inside iClone...but in reality i think they would be more prone to create a seperate program for that, considering how 3d modelling/sculpting might bog a program like iClone down ?,,but either way, still a nice thought. )

check out my 3D Creations Thread ;

(free downloads of 3D vases, wineglasses, cups, candleholders, bowls, flower pots, etc...new items will be added weekly.... downloads are .vns format)

free- 5 Goblets (or wineglasses, candleholders, vases, etc.)
