As much as the prospect of obtaining IC4 fills me with excitement and inspiration I feel, in all honesty, I must post the following response to this woefully late news announcement.

Surely no one would wish a repeat of last years initial IC3 release fiasco? I only want IC4 when it's been thoroughly tested and fit for purpose. Similar opinions have been expressed by others elsewhere on the forum. I do, however, fail to understand why RL have recently treated their customers genuine interest in the progress of this wonderful new product with such contempt.

Through the phased release of IC4 promotional videos, new feature listings etc, RL very successfully generated a spirit of excited anticipation and expectation from Icloners. Why fail to maintain this pleasurable experience by giving the very strong impression recently that the company had retreated into self imposed hibernation ?

RL`s own IC4 sneak preview web page which exhorted us to “visit here every day to witness the final stage towards the birth” remained unchanged for the last 2 weeks. Didn't anyone on the RL Team consider that a delay in the stated September delivery may require an epidural ?

In addition, the RL Iclone Content Store has become inexplicably stagnant this past month, even though we know CCD`s submitted some exciting new Iclone items weeks ago. I also visit and use Backstage regularly but believe it's had one of the longest periods without updates since its inception. Current circumstances prompt me to speculate that RL have suppressed the release of new Iclone content because of the delay with IC4. Do regular customers (and CCD`s) really warrant this imposition?

I received via email (24/09/09) the RL September Newsletter. This effectively lead on the talents of the recent worthy Competition winners but was elsewhere totally inadequate regarding any news of new Iclone content and in particular the September IC4 release.

The support forum has for many days been abandoned as a means of keeping us informed. Only Peter Edwards, posting after his return from holiday, provided a somewhat ominous clue as to what was actually happening with the release of IC4. Am I uncharitable in wondering if this snippet would have appeared at that time without a prompting question from a forum member ?

The irony is I feel sure this apparent inactivity was actually hiding feverish, diligent industry behind the scenes by the RL Team. All totally dedicated to getting things “right” for us with IC4. I am both sympathetic and tolerate to the need for a delayed launch . I cannot, however, understand why RL chose to exacerbate user disappointment and unnecessarily test their loyalty with this pointless and inexcusable absence of information or comment until the very last moment.

I do hope RL will review the practice which has in recent days so lamentably ignored the need to communicate honestly with their customer base. They may care to consider it served only as catalyst for resentment and mistrust.

IC4 does indeed look wonderful. I am dazzled by it's amazing potential but I've not been blinded to the fact that my interest in this product has, for the past few important expectant days, been serviced with so little respect and common courtesy. If you postpone an event shouldn't you at least try to inform your guests before they leave home ?

Geoff.

Well, to be honest, I'm disappointed that we won't have an improvement in the fundamentals of animation editing. Folks, getting real control over character animation in iClone is tough, and it will remain so for the time being!

However, the ancillary goodies are SO good that they will completely raise the look of the movies to the next level. I think dynamic hair and cloth will have the biggest impact. Look at the spectacular results in the demo video.

It's a fabulous achievement and most of us won't see the new world of possibilities until we really dig in!
