Please can somebody explain in Idiot-Speak how opacity is used to "cut holes" in clothes?  I have resd the instructions in the I-Clone Manual, and I have followed the tutorial on the old forum, but I what seems to be the basic idea (put black where you don't want the cloth to show) isn not working for me.  My character is getting black collar and sleeves!

Can anybody tell me why?

Could you perhaps show a pic of your end result?...and also, what texture editor are you using?.

I use Photoshop and work in layers.  You have the right idea as far as black where you don't want cloth to show....also white where you do want cloth and/or various shades of gray for transparancies.

Hi Richard,

One thing to be sure about when you are working with Opacity maps is that you are using a CloneCloth figure and not a standard figure. CloneCloth figures use a double mesh system which is made up of one mesh for the body and one for the clothing. By blackening out parts of the opacity maps you allow the body to show through.

You should start with something simple like shortening a pair of jeans or trousers/pants. Working on small details like collars could be confusing for a first effort. Load up a sample CloneCloth figure like, Jack Clone Casual_A and launch the Lower Diffuse and Opacity maps into your image editor. By making parts of the white areas black on the Opactity map, the clothing will disappear and the body will show through clearly.

After making any changes, Save and use Update in iClone to see the results. I think you will soon get to grips with it after a little practise.

Thanks guys - I've watched the tutorial - and guess what - simplest thing ever!  I was not saving the amended opacity map as a JPG!

Got it sorted now - thanks.
