Thanks dear friends.

Let me explain the box.

I did NOT invent that.  It is a direct recommendation from my good friends at engineering department at Reallusion.

Certainly you can create hair as it is in the guides, skipping the box part, but....   It will look OK upon loading, while it is on the imported character.   If you save it or if you load a Violet or Trinity head on it, you will see then the hair goes offset up.  If you scale it it travels very fast upwards and it has positively a problem with it's internal pivot point.

Reallusion eng. verified the problem exists, and also found the Reset Xform utility would not fix it.

By attaching the hair mesh to a box it gets it's data structure organized in a way the export plugin understands and creates a correctly placed pivot for the hair.   So the action of attaching to the box seems silly, specially coming from me , right BB?, but it is not!

But you all can try both situations.  Do one without the box stage and another as I said.  Compare behavior by saving the hair and applying to G3 heads.

Next tutorial will be very enlightening!

I agree with the comments so far. This is very generous of you, Mike, to share your knowledge with others who wish to create iClone items. And the tutorial was very well-executed and pleasant to watch.

One thing I might add is that for some of us who wondered what it is like to use 3D Max to create iClone items--this is the first time we've ever seen it in action, so it's really eye-opening.

Again, ANOTHER great job.

Congratulations on an excellent hair tutorial.

It may not appeal to some, but it is quite informative. I personally found it very well done and informal, which made it more appealing. Keep up the good work and know that you are always a welcome member of the forum and iClone community.

It works a treat Mike.  This took only five minutes to create.  I'm sure with a bit of thought, patience and artisitic flare some pretty ornate styles could be achieved.

Thanks Mike

Wow!

You are a quick learner Shy!

I would like to see someone making the same using the "Magic"Egg freebie!

Today I will do a tutorial on the magic egg for those not 3D MAX involved many!

I would say I enjoy this, better tha struggling for sales!

Hey shygirl, I've been looking for a radical do-over ever since I got bald.

I think I finally found someone to help. PM me immediately. I have a social function tonight.

Just back from vacation Mike. Very impressed with your tutorial. As Shygirl has said there has been a great demand for new hairstyles since the early days of 1.5. I Understand what you are saying about the box. Pivots can be a nightmare LOL. This should help a lot of developers.

Once again great job. Look forward to seeing more.
