What is the largest amount of RAM you have managed to take up with your biggest, most complex, heavily textured iClone scenes? Talking 64 bit, because larger is better!

iClone itself? I don't know. I have 16 GB of RAM. Until recently, I'm pretty sure I never exceeded 7 GB, and I consider myself a pretty heavy multi-tasker. Even doing this was around the 6-7 GB range: - iClone
- Indigo (multiple files - having fun with the demo projects)
- Many GIMP sessions
- Many Audacity files
- NLE video editor
- Internet Explorer (many tabs)
- Google Chrome (many tabs)
- Maybe other little things...
In the last couple of weeks I noticed I was up to 11 GB, but only once. I wonder if one of the applications had a memory leak. That is why I don't promote buying 32GB of RAM. To me, 8 GB is a sweet spot, and 16 GB should be safe for almost any mortal, though I'm sure there are some in this forum who could exceed that threshold.
iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity... Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual monitors. Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

I know I have not exceeded 2GB as that is all I have on my computer. Things do slow down a little at times. I am using Windows7 64 bit. Ken

I strongly recommend 4GB for anybody doing "authoring" or "content creation." Video editing, music work, and especially something like iClone. I even recommend 4GB as a "minimum" for any system these days. Too bad you've had so many things get in the way of your new computer. You really need it.

That makes sense. It's those big textures/images that take it up. Those live in system ram until they are needed for display. Then they get moved into the frame buffer V-ram on the card. My understanding is that it's the size of the display and the number of frames that must be pre-generated for anti-aliasing and such, that determines how much V-RAM is needed. Please feel free, anyone, to correct me if I'm misunderstanding something in this.

With the System RAM in my Signature: I would say; never more than 4Gb for all Running Processes, including iClone, 3DXChange & Photoshop, when plugged-into iClone. I don't Multi-task, apart from the above, while Running iClone & only have essential Processes running in the background. BTW - The more System RAM, the longer it takes to load Programs. More space to fill., Geddit? I concur with Dennis that 8GB SRAM is probably the "Sweet spot". It also depends upon your SRAM Rating. 6GB Kingston HyperX Gaming SRAM is faster than say 6GB Samsung etc. A balanced PC Hardware setup is better than one with mis-matched 32GB SRAM. A bit academic anyway, IMO. Since there's only a handful of iClone Users who actually produce & complete Storyline Videos

I think the most I've seen is about 4.5 GB of RAM. My video card memory, which is 1.5 GB, easily gets maxed out.

colour (12/16/2014) BTW - The more System RAM, the longer it takes to load Programs. More space to fill., Geddit?Say what?? No, I don't get it. "Extra" RAM does not compel your computer to fill it, and will not make a program take longer to load. If a program wants 0.8GB of RAM, that's all it will use, whether you have 4, 6, or 16GB. The problem is when it wants 0.8GB of memory, but you only have 0.5 available, so it has to swap out something not being used. That swapping between RAM and your hard drive is what will kill performance. Or have I misunderstood you?
