Has anyone done this? Or know a way to do it?

I would lke to create a wireframe of a character, using the wireframe of the character as final rendered avatar. I am thinking of using different colors in each polygon on a random basis.
The primary colors would be just fine, just as long as I don't have too many contiguous polygons with the same colors.

Or you could take your model into a modeller , assign materials to random ploys
Until your model is 100% covered.

Once back in iClone you could then have your ploys change colour using
The time line.

Do you mean faceted? Like each poly is a flat surface? Or, do you mean like made of chicken wire?

All I need to do is have the polygons (preferably triangles) colored differently.

The colors are only to differentiate between the polygons for clarity.

Rampa - chicken wire

I was thinking this might not be too difficult in iclone, just render out a naked multi-colored wireframe character.

Sorry, I vanished for a bit.

I'm being dense and not quite getting what your after, and it may just be terminology. Having colored polygons and wireframe are two different things. So, I am assuming you are after a wireframe overlay on top of the polygon surface made up of various colored polygons.

So, in this case, the avatar would not be see-through. Does that sound like what your after?

There is a "chainmail" iMaterial if your after the see-through wire look.

My other thought was to export the "UV ref." files from iclone, and load them as your texture, either diffuse or overlay.

My interest is to color the polygon triangles with different colors surrounding.

Red center - blue, Green, yellow, etc.. in adjoined polygons.

Just to distinguish between the polygons. I realize some colors will run together when you pull out. When you zoom in you can see the various colors of each polygon. The polygons will be flat surface not 3D, for colors.

It doesn't matter what color the wireframe, thin black lines are fine.

It isn't necessary to show skin and wireframe simultaneously, just wireframe.

I think I'm seeing what your seeing now. That overlay was just for example, I understood you wanted color, not face texture. Smile

If you need the exact mesh of the avatar, it's harder. If you can use a repeatable tile of your own wire design, it's much easier.

Basically, you just need to do a lot of 2d editing on the UV map, and then use it for your diffuse and your opacity. there is an awful lot of careful selecting and outlining you'll need to do for the 20,000 polys of an avatar!

It'd be nice if the UV maps were higher resolution, but it's a start.

It's an iClone forum, for one.
It should be assumed that this texture is needed within iClone, for two, because of one.

It is not the best solution, but I already know Blender is not the solution Rampart is looking for.

It's all good sw00000p, I just know he doesn't want to go that route already.

At first, I interpreted your querry as provocative, as you are wont to be that way sometimes. Then I figured it out and edited my post.

This is definitely a process that needs the automation of a 3D editor to work well. And your right, if it was just wireframe, iClone already does that in the display setting for every avatar/object.
