| | The War & Peace filmmaking competition looks interesting. Can someone or reallusion clarify the following two questions: Film length: In one place it says 2 - 10 minutes. In another place I think I saw the word "suggested length" or something similar, indicating that the length can be longer than 10 minutes. So is it 10 minutes max or can it be longer than that and broken into two or more parts in YouTube? This question is important because the length predetermines a lot about a film. Title: In one place it says "include 'iClone War & Peace -'" in the title. In another place it says put "iClone War & Peace" in the tag. Should the film do both or either one of the two will be fine? This question is not as important, but perhaps it should be clarified so that some films will not be disqualified for violating a simple rule. Thanks! |

| Hi, davidyang
Thanks for asking...
About the film length, we will base on the "2-10 mins content" for judging. But Reallusion doesn't want to put serious limitation on this issue. So, if the entry is a little bit longer, we will still accept it. If the entry is far longer than our expectation, we will ask the author to provide another cut/version for competition under 10 mins. Basically, the length won't be the judging consideration. But a long epic story with many beautiful scenes and interesting stories will definitely be more appreciated than a short & simple one.
As to the titles, every video entry is asked to place "War & Peace" competitition related message, whether it's in the video title, description or tag. This should be a required item for participation. Reallusion will ask these authors to update this message if they don't do it yet. Any video entry without "War & Peace" message won't be in the final consideration for the prizes.
I hope this info can help clarify your concern.
Thanks Visconti

| | Hi Visconti, Thanks for the quick reply (and on a Sunday!). I will decide on the story line and get started and see if I can still make it by the deadline. The questions are not for my sole benefit since I personally prefer shorter length and will probably make it within 10 minutes. Part of the reason that I raised the questions is to make Reallusion aware of the inconsistency in the posted rules. I will suggest finding a way to add the essense of your answer to the posted rules. Granted, this is more of a friendly contest, not the Oscar. But I have witnessed in more than one occasions unclear rules ruined an otherwise fun experience. What can happene is that once the winner is announced, there could be some contestants believe their entries deserve a trophy, too. The winning entry isn't any better than theirs, in their opinion. Furthermore, the winning entry doesn't even follow the POSTED rules and therefore should be disqualified in the first place. These kind of resentment can sour the mood for everyone. Just my 2 cents. |

| well my sense here is that it should be the spirit of the contest that matters - i would hate to see a top notch movie not win because of a technicality
Statements made above may be fact based or are my opinion only which are sometimes right but are never wrong

| | That's exactly what I am trying to do here - to make sure that no movie can be challenged simply because of simple technicalities. Revise the rules a little to specifically allow for the variations in length and the thing about the "iClone War & Peace -". Making them official in the posted rules will take away the possiblity of resentment or even open challenge later. I am going out of my way to make this point because I have seen quite a few contests (not in film making) turning into something everyone wanted to forget. Without exception, all these few situations involved unclear rules because they were supposed to be friendly competitions, and all the contestants were grownups (who were presumably not going to sweat over small stuffs). Making it formally in the posted rules may also save a few hairs from pulling out of heads. There could be someone out there making or about to make the movie and they only look at the posted rules and never visit this forum. It will save them the pain of trying to determine which beautiful scenes to cut from his/her movie because it is a little over 10 minutes. If I were Reallusion, I will even go one step further. I will review every submission to make sure they comply with the posted rules to the letter. If not, I will notify them and give them a chance to make the corrections. |
