All I am really doing is buying a mac mini for the front room so I do not have to disappear for hours on end from the family. I bought a bit of software called Cheetah 3d which turned out to be a lot better than its price tag but it only runs on Mac. Was running it on a old Imac g5 but render times were slow.

Ill tell you one thing though ! if I meet a mac head who tells me they use macs because they just work I might beat them to death with a old Imac g5 that need so much faffing around just to upgrade to OS it was truly unbelievable.

yep, and they just did it again with their new yosimite os. I'm considering going back to pc for music on my next major upgrade on music stuff - can't say that I appreciate how apple non-chalantly breaks thousands of dollars of plug ins / and hardware at a whim.

I'm on a 10.6.8 set up now - I just wanted to upgrade the music software, but they came at me with, you have to upgrade the os, then your 32 plug ins wont work, your expansion cards will need to be replaced .... and I was like ...dude....I just wanted the new gui ....forget it man a 200 dollar upgrade suddenly jumped to about a $2.5k upgrade - because even the upgrades and replacements jumped up in price. it sounds good enough for my needs now so I'm cool....but dayum!!

yeah in mac terms one generation of hardware = 1 OS, new hardware = new OS . Say what you like about Microsoft its only over the last 2 years XP has finally come to a end in support terms. No Mac OS has had such a life span.

See, now I really start to feel bad for the poor Mac users... They always seem so happy or claim they are... PC users tend to bitch and moan all the time but I've had very few problems actually since XP... The only caveat is that I need to build my own systems to get sufficient quality. But I don't mind that, it's kind of fun.

i actually enjoy having both worlds - i just feel more at home with the pc, especially since I can build them from scratch with the macs - it feels like .....well...remember the old auto commercials where they offer you a muffler for like 20 bucks ? then you go to the station, they lift the car up in the air , and say ....ok...that will be 300 bucks ....and you are like ...what just happened ? and they are like ...the muffler is 20 bucks ...but everything we need to fix around it came out to 280 the pc on the other hand is like .....hey man....you need another update - reboot....now another upgrade ....reboot.....erp...you need more ram.....doh, need to upgrade the chip......sec....first get a motherboard.....dude...there's a sale on drives. ..you are down to 20 megs ........all cool ? great ....now you need an anti-virus .....can i interest you in a firewall too ? hey...wanna make phone calls ? how about mocap ?.....sounds like you need an ssd drive...hrmmm... and it never stops lol.
