Thanks for posting that, Gerry. I'm contemplating the GTX 980 for a new build.

Thanks for posting the video. When I went to the Nvidia page on product launch day, it was a brand new page and it had only a still image from the video. It's nice to see the video. Yes, the 980 has captured my attention. But if I upgrade my GPU as anticipated, I'll probably have to concede to real-life considerations and get the 970.
BTW... Mythbusters did an EXCELLENT episode where the "busted" several moon-landing conspiracy-theory myths. Non-parallel shadows, sharp boot imprints, waving flag, and the bouncing walk. A wonderful episode. The moon landing was real. Duh!

Viking, the children may have to work to get through college, BUT the 980 deserves serious consideration. You are already running a 4770, so there is no immediate need to upgrade the CPU. In my case, I have to do a new build; CPU is too old... But I don't mind...

justaviking (9/29/2014) ...if I upgrade my GPU as anticipated...animagic (9/29/2014) ...there is no immediate need to upgrade the CPU...Not sure if you misread. That would be understandable. "CPU" and "GPU" look so much alike, but sometimes I get tired of typing "graphics card." I've rolled up all the pocket change I collected over the last couple of years. That will easily pay for the iClone upgrade (with or without the Indigo plug-in). A new graphics card is very tempting. It would also be fun to upgrade my 250GB SSD or a 500GB model, but a modest amount of housekeeping will easily free up some space on my C: drive again. Have fun with your new build.

Viking, I understood... What I meant was that if your CPU is fairly new (you mentioned a 4770, but I see that your signature says 3770), the first thing to upgrade would be the GPU, and you would see a benefit. In my case, both are older so I want to build new. Another reason is that I want to have a system that is not cluttered with all manner of 3D programs like my current one. So it will be devoted to iClone and Vegas. Conversion and "modeling" I would do on my current system.

@Animagic, Very well, then. We find ourselves in perfect agreement. I have no plans to upgrade my 3770k CPU anytime soon. However... about the graphics card... I may find myself with some free time in a couple of weeks. In that case, I might finally give in and finally do some hands-on Blender work. Until now I've simply watched tutorials, marveled at the results, and let my son be the Blender dude in the house. If I start running the Blender "Cycles" renderer, and become as addicted to is as I have always feared iI would, then I'll be upgrading the graphics card for sure.
