I purchased iClone 3.2 from Digital Juice several weeks ago.  I've read the entire manual and have watched the tutorial videos on the links below.  And have tried in vain to do the "basics".  Sure, I can make the actor walk from point A to B, and even get in a jeep or mo-ped and drive.  BUT.... what I want to do is:

Have the actor walk up the stairs of the House suppiled with iClone, open the door, walk in to the kitchen, turn on the wall light switch, go to the sink, turn on and off the water faucet, then open and close the dishwasher.

Before I invest more time and money in 3DExchange for downloads from Google 3D wharehouse, I would like to see what can be done with the free downloads on iClone.

Are there AML templates for what I want to do?

How can I learn the basics to get past this learning hump and fill in the missing pieces of the puzzel that apparently Reallusion thinks we're born with?

Hi Charles,

There really isn't a way to avoid the learning curve that is required I'm afraid. iClone3 is a powerful 3D movie machine that is really only limited by the creativity of the user. To master it does take time and you will need to spend time watching and reading as much as you can.

The problems you are experiencing are very common because it is natural to be want to do it all straight away, and it is frustrating to have an idea but not know how to achieve it.

I would say take it slow. Try to concentrate on one feature at a time. Watch the tutorial for that particular feature several times, pausing, practicing and try not to move on until you are comfortable you understand it.

It may not seem like it now but it will all start to come together over time. There are many talented people on this forum to prove it. You seem to have links to the various tutorials and resources so I won't repeat them again.

I would say, take a look though at the Interactive Home project for iClone. This is close to what you want to achieve. Try to study it and see how things are done by checking the timeline as events happen. This I have found is always a good way to learn but keep it simple at first. You will need to learn how to walk from A to B before you can walk to C and so on.

Hang in there.

Thanks Guys,

Peter, can you link me to the "interactive Home", I can't find it.

Can an actor walk up the steps and open the door on the house on stilts that comes with iclone?

The Interactive Home Project is normally pre-installed in Projects. If it isn't there you can download it free from BackStage. (treasure chest icon, top right in iClone3)

For more information on walking up stairs, please take a look at the link below. This has some useful tips which should help you achieve this.

I thought, it was just me! I purchased iClone Pro and was thinking the program would have a basic work flow help tutorial for newbies to help you get started but I was wrong. I'm finding out that you have to feel your way around the program to learn it. Are there any videos on Youtube with someone explaining the interface and the basics of working with iClone? I'm really a visural learning and seeing someone work with the program would help me understand it better.

Thanks for any help

Walking down this same path myself and without the aide of a project oriented tutorial for us new to Iclone, I found what was helpful to me, some hands on training, very inexpensive, provided by Cricky via Skype. It has proved invaluable to me and I Highly Recommend his training methods. I'm just a student of his training and receive no monies for this recommendation. If you are interested you can reach him through his voice mail, don't be shy, he can help get you started. Now back to learning some more Iclone.

I echo what sumthinwong said, Cricky is an excellent tutor of iClone and he knows the program better than anyone I know.  You can contact him and leave a voicemail at the Skype iClone Classroom HERE

Hope this helps.

Shy
