| Hey, I'm disappointed the Forum hasn't picked up on this before now--an interesting interview with Reallusion's John Martin that gives a really high-level view of CrazyTalk and iClone.
http://www.animizemedia.com/wordpress/?p=133
Martin called CrazyTalk RA's "flagship" product and then covered iClone in a slightly subordinate context (evidently there is a subtext of relative market shares behind this).
He also revealed that these products have a remarkably diverse user base, from youngsters to experts who worked on the last Hollywood blockbuster. I think he was justifiably proud that the products are technological enablers, no matter what your animation sophistication level is.
Next time, don't forget to tell us! We users don't get to see enough of the big picture . . .

| | I saw this... Very good. He has the sort of enthusiastic nature one would imagine ANY wannabe animator would have and in this I am STILL amazed that iClone is NOT leagues more common place than it is. It should be screaming with users and busting at the seams. John M. should do a focused talk on iClone v.3. A kind of talk through and talk over that incorporates a whole chunk spectrum of clips from different footage and interspersed with facts and explanatories purely for iClone 3 and it deserves this kind of focus now. Who disagrees? If something was done that concisely; if something was created as a kind of annual element that was as intriguing to watch as the next up and coming Box Office Hit, it would be a superb module for people to display against affiliation badges on their sites that not only explained the guts of iClone, not only promoted that further click into its domains, but it would be an ultimate lesson from an insider to the Big "R". I can understand why CrazyTalk (2.5D, that always makes me laugh!) is so popular with its simplicity or complexity depending on what use its put to, but think on it..... EVERYBODY likes a Disney production. Disney is kind of "The Heart Warmer of the planet". And to say there aren't as many wannabe animators as there are wannabe Renoir's, well.... I fail to believe that. John didn't say that, I did. Personally, I think its the same lame brick wall dead end false frame of mind I had in the beginning. I would see an animation and be blown away and think, "Pwoah, WAY too far ahead for me to do!" and I would hold the animator in awe assuming it to be a personal impossibility. WHEREAS.... now... the reality is such that, as J.M. states, kids are playing in this now. The only hurdles are the missing props you need in shot.
For me, I really want to see the users of iClone in their millions because... it's kind of solitudal when you're theorising and want to grind down some ideas; chew over the cud on issues of fantasy society; talk imaginative architecture for a set that compliments the characters and break it all into its basic constituents; work out histories that suit the sets design and add elements that balance that theory and see if someone else can reassemble them in an alternate manner for a higher impact. It's still a bit of a desert and I don't see why that is. Fear I guess.
