That was a cool ship. looks like a lot of hard work went into it. Just shows what you can do with the 3D blocks. Looking forward to seeing the final movie.

Kind of like having your own Lincoln Logs for building things huh?

What was the final size when merged?

I try to create things like this outside of iClone because of the final size. When things are merged it tends to increase the size exponentially with each new component addition...in other words, it doesn't delete the non-essential polygons or the hidden faces.

It does work, and you did a nice job, just curious what the final size was more than anything else. The program does offer a ready made tool to do things like this, it just hasn't gotten efficient at the removal of unnecessary polygons and faces yet.

Peter - Thanks   Yes, it did take a few days to complete the model, mostly because of the way I decided to do the texturing.  lol  It would have been a lot faster if I had used ready made imaterials.  Glad you like the model

Cricky - Thanks and an interesting question
I went back and looked at my project files this morning, and here are the results...lol

Lazarus ended up having 16 3D blocks in its construction.  The stages shown in the video, plus once I started texturing, I then added 4 window panels to the hull.
This is the finished size.  Not too bad considering how many blocks I used, lol.

Another project snap of an earlier version of Lazarus, I think at this stage I was working from the front to back on textures, so some of the front bits are probably already merged as I was happy with those.

And lastly, a snap of the finished movie scene project file which included the skydome, all of the planets and Lazarus.  The whole thing was a very workable size

I think the basic model, before texturing, additions, and merging was just under approx 1900 face count

that was very cool and well done, I especially liked the space layout and how you made the planets as well. Made me think about google Sky 3D sketch ups for new types of environments http://www.google.com/sky/

Hey Raven,

Do you prefer to use an early version of Paint Shop Pro?

So do I?

Give me your reasons!

Thank you everyone.

Popeye - Thanks, this is a good way to practice and learn, lol

Shy - Thank you very much.  I'm pleased with how this one turned out.

Planetstardragon - Thank you, I'm glad you like the scene   The skydome is hand drawn too with a custom texture, lol, I was doing everything the hard way for this project But your link is a good one for anyone wishing to add space textures to personal video projects I wasn't aware that google did skies, lol, thanks.

Freshnews - Yes, I like the older version of psp.  I'm a long term user of the sofware.  I started off with version 5, eventually went up to 7, and then the anniversary addition of 7 and stayed with that one.  I did look at the demo for the next upgrade, but at the time I didn't feel it offered anything new that I needed.  For me, PSP 7 has all the features that I would use, and more importantly, I know how to use most of them, lol.

Alley - Thank you.  I'm glad you liked the step-by-step aspect of the video.  It was interesting to make a little video like that
