Does the Mixamo skeleton have "twist bones"? It's actually pretty normal for game rigs to deform a bit like this at joints. When you "characterize" in 3DX, you are only doing very basic "rigging". I put rigging in quotes because the "control" part of the rig is already built. It's iClone's control rig. You get some control over bone placement (and choice of bone to target).
Anyway..... Take a close look at the characterization panel in 3DX and you will see some little black bone indicators just outside the orange or blue bone indicators of the limbs. If your Mixamo skeleton has twist bones, they should be targeted to these.
