Hi - I am in the process of creating a character, but how do I change the shape of the hair?  I have played with the opacity and diffusion maps, but they seem to have no effect on the actual shape.  The character has a ruff, which currently ges through their hair - I want to give it a cut so it stops above the ruff.

I have tried bene clever with sizing and posiitoning, but wiht no joy (or I am not clever enough)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Also, can anybody tell me if there are any restrictions on using Rederoity contents in I-Clone?
I am interested in some of the long hair they have for sale, but "long hair" in I-Clone goes not much further than the shoulder.  I do not want  to buy these is I then find that they do not maintain their length releatve to the body.  Also, will I need the 3D-Exchange to import any of the graphics?

 Thanks.

Hi Richard,

While it is possible to use hair designed originally for use in Poser or Daz Studio, in practical terms this will probably not be a viable option. The hair models from places like Renderosity and Daz use much higher poly models, which may not work too well in the real time enviroment of iClone. They also will not work in iClone without conversion through 3DXchange and then further scaling and positioning as required.

Of course there are many hair styles available at Renderosity and some may perform better than others but you should be aware that these Poser hairstyles are not really meant for use in iClone and may not be useable at all. Only trial and error will determine that.

Hi Richard,

There is not a simple way of editing the length of hairstyles within iClone. It involves altering the Opacity maps but first you will need to open the UV Ref map and determine which parts of the Opacity need to be changed. This can be hard to tell in some cases.

Unless you are willing to go through the above process you may be better off going for a shorter length hairstyle. Have you checked out the content store as there are now several hair packs with a variety of different length hair which may well meet your needs in this case.

HAIR - What are the options?

So do I understand this correctly - you can't really edit the hair in iclone?  Not with an outside program like adobe photoshop or some other way?   If there is a way to add a hairdo say from a jpeg photograph or by creating your own, or adapting an existing hairdo, I would like to know.

I don't love the hair selections in the program or available for purchase.  So, I would love to know another way to tackle this.

Thanks

Hi,

Use the X, Y, Z to make a short style invisible on your model.  You can then import 'hair' and add as an accessory.  There are many freebies available, you just have to hunt for them......or if you had a particular style in mind, you could purchase from Renderosity or Daz.  Just be aware that really long hair accessories don't perform too well with iClone as it was not their intended purpose.  3dxchange can be used for converting 'hair'.

Hope this helps

Shy

Hi,

I have revised my opinion a little on the use of Daz hair models with iClone. My first attempts at using some of the hairstyles available from Daz (and Renderosity) were not great but I have to say that if you go for the "less complex" hairstyles then much success can be had especially if you have a good spec computer.

As Shy has already said they need to be converted through 3DXchange first but that is a quick and simple process overall. Of course be aware that this can be a hit and miss experience depending on the hair model so be sure you want to take the risk before shelling out your cash.

Shy:

That sounds like a good idea, I'll have to try it.  If you have any ideas where I might find hair freebies on the net, I would appreciate the lead.

Peter:

The Daz etc. route seems expensive and unreliable.  Also, I'm a newbie here and not willing to buy another program like the 3D converter.  If Reallusion sold individual iclone hairstyles, I would be willing to buy one or two.  The ones I like (well enough) seem to come only in bundles costing around $17.   But thanks anyway for your input.  As moderator, perhaps you could persuade Reallusion to unbundle more of the hairdos.

Thank you both for your replies.  This is really helpful!
