I have searched but cannot find anything on this problem. When a scene is rendered to avi the lip sync is always out by 4 seconds. I know that this can be corrected in editing by splitting vid and audio tracks and then adjusting the audio track but this should not be necessary. I am using version 3.2.1230.1 and am converting uncompressed to avi. Any answers please?

Hi Bran,
here is a little tip that might help you,
play your animation in wireframe to make sure the audio is trully in sync? Why? because wireframe is the fastest playback you can have realtime. This is the only true way for you to check the images match the audio or viceversa.
If you been trying to sync your audio in pixel shader mode, your graphics card may not have been able to keep up with the audio.
Example:
you have a 1 second (30 frames) audio clip
but you animation maximun playback speed was 20 frames per second.
the audio and video might look like they match on the realtime playback but in fact, when you make your movie you will be 10 frames short on the video side when the movie is rendered.
The fix to this problem is to keep track of the frames/sec on both video and audio.

Hope this helped,

Thank you for your reply. The lipsync always looks right within iClone whatever mode used i.e pixel shader, wireframe. I do have a top of the range graphics card for my system and rendering to avi at times can be so fast it is in slow motion rather than frame by frame as previously. I don't see how I can "keep track of the frames on both video and audio" as you suggest. I would have no choice but to render in pixel shader mode and perhaps the only thing I can do is render using a different codec.

I would have thought Reallusion might have something to say on this issue.

Hi Bran,
of course the lipsync is going to look right no matter which mode you are on, that is because the program will drop frames in order to sync the audio and video when palying at realtime, but when you render the movie, the program renders every frame in the time line. And that is when you have a missmatch of the audio and video. Specially if you try to time the audio by looking at the video inside Iclone.
As far as keeping track of the frames on both audio and video, that is simple. If your final movie is supposed to be played at 30fps , just keep up but doing just that, for example:
you may want a loud bang sound to happen at 4 seconds into the movie, then move the timeline to frame 120 and add your sound fx there. That will guarantee to have the sound at 4 seconds when you render the movie. That is what I mean by keeping track of things.

I hope this helped,

Stuckon3d

PS: To be honest, the best solution to this problem is to add the audio after you render the movie in some other app. There are plenty of free ones out there. Use iclone to rough out the audio and video but then remove the audio and add it using a video editor.

I have found the answer to this problem which did not appear to have an answer from Reallusion. The answer is that because my final product is edited in Pal the frame rate of which is 25fps I assumed that I should set the frame rate of iClone at 25fps also. Wrong. Setting the frame rate in iClone at 30fps achieves perfect lip sync.

This was never a problem in v2.5, so it was not something I expected to be any different.

Hello Bran, Mad Mellor Lilacboydaz Man here,

like your good self been in the uk with a [PAL 25fps] setting for avi output.

I regularly output at 25fps & have never had the 4 second difference scenario with lip sync.

I did ponder this back with version 1 / 1.5 iClone. (if output was based on NTSC)

The times I have encountered 'out of sync audio' has generally resulted with a codec 'clash' or 'fault'.

Glad you found a solution anyway, hope my extra info was amusing, DT

I'd like to echo what stuckon3d has said. Adding and editing audio always works best for me in my external editor, in my case Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
