How to make Dynamic TV Screen Category: iClone_Hints & Tips_ Scene/Prop Version: iClone 1.52 Date: 2007.02.25 Q: I have tried to amend the TV screen as the tutorial suggested using 3dmax Made the new screens and imported as a prop The only trouble is that it covers the screen whilst stationery but no sooner you had camera the existing iclone TV screen is visible Any idea's
Actually there is a better way to make the same outcome without Max. This method is accessible after you get "timeline".
1) Open a 3D surface (e.g. plane_A) and diffuse an image to make it as the TV screen 2) Have another plane_B with image placed behind the screen (by position). At this time, you can only see plane_A in the shot

3) To make plane_B unroll to cover plane_A, you need to contract plane_B first (by scale). Then, enlarge plane_B to the front of plane_A to cover it (by position & scale).

4) Finally, you can see the change from plane_A to plane_B of the display.

Preserving Bump Maps Category: iClone_Hints & Tips_Scene/Prop Version: iClone 1.52 Date: 2007.02.21 Q: How can I preserve my bump maps when exporting to iClone with 3ds max??
Did you use BMP or JPG images for texture mapping? iClone supports only these 2 image formats. Have you exported the item and re-mapped it inside iClone? It's hard to tell exactly what else you've tried, but you can apply textures to props, clothing, etc. as an alternative using the Diffuse editor for existing textures you may already have on file. You can also do editing by launching your editor in the Modify (Generate UV and Map Setting)-Diffuse option
Have you tried OSS Media Pro? You can create texture maps from most video formats (read their guidelines) by extracting specified frames and saving in the format desired of which one is jpg.

Animation and Change 2D Background Category: iClone_Hints & Tips_Scene/Prop Version: iClone 2.0 Date: 2007.4.23 Q: I have created a 3 minute animation movie in iClone Studio, that has the same 2d background for long 3 minutes. Is it possible in iClone Studio to change to another 2D background after one minute and then to a third 2d background after another minute? So that background changes twice during the 3 minute long movie that I export from iClone Studio.
I don't know the answer but the work around I have used is to export the same clip several times with changes and then edit the movie clips together. A simple workaround is as follows if you're uncomfortable with the cutting room (Editing stage/Editing software).
Create 3 (as many as you wish) objects (Walls from the Scenes > Props > Templates > 3D Blocks > Wall & Floor) and add your image (Modify > Generate 3D & Map Setting > Diffuse) to each wall.
Resize the walls so that they completely fill the background.
Set one wall +10 closer than the others and offset it rotationally by about 5 degrees or so.
At the time you want to change the background stop the timeline and drop back the front wall and simultaneously bring another forwards offset rotationally 5 degrees or so in the opposite direction.
Does this as many times as you require? Afterwards you'll need to go into the timeline editor and do the following.
Set it so that you can see each walls timeline. Copy the first walls' 1st key frame and paste that first key of the first wall 20 frames or so before the changeover point where it starts to slide back wards to be replaced by the second wall as it starts its first transition to come forwards. This squeezes the transitional phase down to 20 frames instead of the whole sequence.
Take the 2nd key of the second wall and copy that, pasting it again 20 frames or so (your choice) before the third wall starts its transition forwards. The third wall is rotationally opposite to the second, so mimicking the initial walls angle.
The effect is a fun transition slide over.
If you don't want the transition simply paste each key 1 frame away from each transition phase causing an immediate jump forwards and backwards making an instantaneous transit.

Creating Explosions in iClone Category: iClone_Hints & Tips_SFX Version: iClone 2.0 Date: 2007.4.28 Q: Hi, please advise how I would explode a planet in a sci-fi story using iClone. Also how could I create off/on lights and illuminated panels for laceName w:st="on">ControllaceName> laceType w:st="on">BridgelaceType> in spaceship? Did you ever refer to Rellusion's hints & tips about comet here.
Illustrative tutorial: http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/tutorials/illustrative/Creating%20custome%20particle%20helper.pdf
Online Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rTFJ1XYk84
If you have any further ideas, let's see how we can help you make it then. Thanks for planet explosion. Does this program run animated GIF? This could allow on off light buttons. No problem with the on/off light button. And iClone can export animated GIF for sure.
