| Every once in a while someone will mention Cel Shading as a need for what they are creating, this may be a solution for those of you who may need it. It's fully functional without nags and the filter actually contains customizable sub-filters which can be edited further.
NewBlueFX offers a Filter called CARTOONr which has modifiable levels of shading based on what effect you are trying to create. I can only speak for Corel Video Studio as the base video editor I use, but they have a few other supported editors that allow this filter(fx) to be used in.
A Sample clip is available here and a preview is available in the Video Wall below as of this posting:

Regardless of what you require there is a filter for just about anything on their site, so if you want to apply some post edit filter effects then go and take a look at what they offer. The full package of all filters, I believe, costs approx. $499.00 US. They have separate filters beyond the FREE filter mentioned here.

| | I believe it works in Pinnacle Studio as well. Pinnacle offer a number of New Blue Effect filters through their plug-in program. The cartoon filter was used in one of the Pinhead entries I believe in the Pinhead project. I think it was the one on Cheeto's or something with Sarah.

| Well, the best time to "toon" is actually *before* you create your video...
You poor folks have witnessed me stumbling around with this issue for years now, so obviously I care about it a good deal.
The following toon was generated with quick color replacements and minimal hand-touchups from the picture-in-picture--the latter came right out of iClone (at much higher resolution, of course).

Consider the PIP to have been deliberately created in pseudocolor--that is, colors that I knew would be preserved when the palette was crushed by a 4-level posterization.
At the risk of belaboring the point, the "tooniness" is baked carefully into the head and hair textures. Even the eyeballs are tooned.
In the past, I've demonstrated images that were extensively handworked. The goal now is to set up the model and the lighting to reduce my manual labor as much as possible...
Wish me luck ... ? !
(PS The ears are 2D shapes fitted over the model ears. It's the only way I could get the look I wanted. There will be some touchups required as we proceed around the headturn....) |

| | Freshnews I like where you are going with the pre export cel shading. I think it gives a very very professional look and that it puts you in the best position to avoid guess work at the post production stages! Good show man!!! |
