| If YouTube and Vimeo would not exist...where would you upload your videos to?
The criteria could be size limitations, speed, default quality playback options, less prostitutional terms and conditions...or simply, you like the site better period ...
So, what site would it be?

| strangely enough those are the 2 best - another big video site - i forget which - is caught up in a class action suit because of some inappropriate things they did with cookies.
if no site existed, i would either use Reallusions widget cast ....or / and wix website to upload flv and use some free webserver service to upload in abundance.
but i personally like youtube best, because they at least give you a relatively fair way to monetize your video with advertising. - at least more fair than the alternative options- These days even ad's have ad's lol....You could always add a link to the video itself ( the embeddable type ) that redirects the viewer to a web site that hosts a fixed youtube player with full quality / size video. "Click here to view full screen HD"
the other way some people do it is simply uploading a quicktime video to their own site / server and let people stream it themselves, the problem with that is that it takes forever to download high quality videos and a portion of your audience will not have the patience to wait - unless it's like a tutorial or something exclusive that people want.

Indeed planetstardragon, monetizing is for sure a big issue...we heard through the grapevine that Metacafe is certainly a site to consider on this $$$ point:
http://www.metacafe.com/
I wonder if anybody in this forum has had a brush with them....?
planetstardragon (5/3/2012) strangely enough those are the 2 best
As far as these being the 2 best...let's see if that is still true by the end of this year. Competition is coming up by the hoardes! Just check this long list (at the bottom of the article) out:

| @Kawatzakka metacafe is the one in the class action suit, i just checked my email to confirm
http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/162977/metacafe-promises-not-to-use-flash-cookies-for-tra.html
as for the competition, it's going to be tough to go against youtube...because youtube is owned by google - deep pockets ...and they can afford to be the most honest with payouts heh.
you have to consider that running major streaming sites like that costs big money, to be able to get an audience like youtube ...you'd need to be able to sustain ridiculous overhead charges to get even half of youtubes audience without substantial revenue as advertising streams only become relevant with huge numbers.
you can't blame a new company for wanting to survive and taking quick revenue options like selling users information, it's not correct ....but it's survival if they want to keep their doors open.
Naturally new sites will have to come up with some innovative ( or sneaky ) way to sustain some sort of revenue stream until they can get those numbers, and that can take years. Hence expect a lot of surprises from a new company trying to stay alive.....ie - metacafe which is comparably close to youtube with flashcookies.
