Hello

I am a new member of this forum and look forward to using this product with ease of mind. The trial convinced me this is what I am looking for.

I have had to make immediate contact with support and copy the message here this is relevant to anyone who is likely to be reinstalling all software once a month.

The security measures are needed but there must be either a solution for bona fide people like me OR very clear PRE-Sales indication that authentification has these limits. At the moment, I am almost regretting my purchase. I am very worried.

I can see a theoretically possible workaround .. which is to include Facefilter studio VERY early in my basic OS install .. so that it gets Symantec-Ghosted along with my basic WINXP and drivers.

But I do not know if this would 'protect' my validation of FaceFilter studio. Also, I make major upgrades /sidegrades to my hardware which requires TOTAL reinstall of windows about four times a year. So these workarounds would have me with a useless copy of the program in a year.

As it is, according to the present security methods, I have totally wasted my first install because I am due to re-do Windows in the next few days. I am upset.

I look forward to my subsequent posts soon being focussed on how I am learning to use the product. I have already been getting great results with the Low Rez pictures allowed by the trial and am excited to use it with the 10Meg pictures of my Sony R1.

Best wishes
Glyn Powell

Message to support:

Hi

I bought facefilter Studio 2 an hour ago.

'five use' limit on the serial was not mentioned before I Paid. I only found out after installing and activating. Or I would have contacted you first to decide whether or not to buy .

This is a problem because I am due to reinstall my Operating system very soon, and I have to continually rebuild and reinstall OS up to once a month.

Limited number of installs is not acceptable to me.

I am happy to submit to whatever reasonable measures you need to satisfy yourself during the years to come that I am the sole user since I wholeheartedly support measures you take against piracy.

I like the product and do not wish to claim refund, cease using it and be de-registered by you.

As I said above, I was not warned of this problem or I would have contacted you first to decide whether or not to buy. I regret the inconvenience.

What solution can you offer so I can continue using the product?

Best wishes
Glyn Powell

Hi

Looking in again today, i browsed the forum and saw that there is a solution:

I am not a training institution, And I will be happy for an online-based solution, but it is good to see that flexibility for specialist needs is built in to your system.

Best wishes

In the Archives there is a discussion on the licenses.

I believe the same holds true today that was in the past; You have a limited amount of licensed install attempts (5 was the maximum). Peter Edwards may be able to confirm or deny the 5 license limit for you. I believe if you uninstall a copy the license server that authorizes your install will return the install attempt to your count. Before you move to another computer, just uninstall from the Old computer and then re-install to the new computer after your new system is up and operational. Transfer your projects created to the new system and you'll be back in business..

If you run out of attempts, Reallusion has a Support Form you can submit. It may be said by some that it will take forever to get a response, but I've had a successful track record with Support, so give it a try. They do respond and there is a tracking number for you to go back and look for the response.

SOLVED AND SORTED. Thank you, Kelly of Realallusion
======================================

Hi All

And Cricky, thankyou for your time and effort in reassuring me and exploring solutions. You were right ... tech support responded well within the limits. And thoroughly. They confirmed what you explained to me. I was not entirely surprised that there would be a solution but in the early stages of realizing that a solution was needed but not in my 'geeky control' to fix for myself I did get anxious and I appreciate your response

And here is the bare bones of the response from Kelly of Technical support:

Phone-home checks and re-set on install and uninstall as long as computer is online at the time. Five try buffer for people who are offline with re-set dependent on reconfirming our customer status.

And here is the text:

Hi Glyn,

Thank you for contacting Reallusion.

To protect your copy against piracy our serial numbers have a five time installation limit. Please note that this limitation is by no means absolute. If you have to install more than five times just notify us with your purchase data and serial number and we will reset the limitation. This measure ensures that honest users like yourself can be certain that others will not get for free what you have paid for.

Furthermore, we generally recommend to do a proper uninstallation of our software while your computer is connected to the internet. In the same manner that the setup connects to our server to validate your serial number during the installation procedure, the setup will also connect to our server during the uninstallation procedure to notify us. This way the five time limitation will not be reached.

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,
Kelly

And that's it.

As I said in my first post, I'd thoroughly put the trial through its paces and knew it's a great program. Very effective and moreover, totally stable.
I can now add 'and made by a company with prompt, friendly and thorough support' to my reasons for smiling every time I use it.

Thankyou and best wishes

Glad it's cleared up for you. Didn't want you sitting there in the dark.
