I think this is great news - in fact the best since the release of 3.0.
You don't have to be a developer or a max user to be glad about this release...it shows reallusions commitment to make developer tools available to all - and thus expands custom content options for the future.

| Hi, this is my first posting. Please allow my any English mistakes because of language barrier.
I have difficulty of getting proper exported VNS file from 3ds Max now.
Tested situation is as follows.
Sample file of Head_Morph01.max supplied from reallusion has file size of 462KB.
When exported this file as .obj format, it shows 227KB and 54KB for .3DS flormat.
The proper VNS file size must be over 200KB, judging from files in the Morph folder, however, it is only 1KB when exported as .VNS format so iClone3 does not load this file as invalid data.
Files in the Morph folder works fine in iClone3 environment.
I tested this in both Max9 and Max2008, result was same.
Lost Link/Head01 pop up is always appearing in the export process.
Are there any misunderstandings im my operation?

| Hi,
I downloaded the beta plugin, installed it (3dsmax 9).
Downloaded the G3 sample files.
Opened the Character Studio File (Bone_CS).
Nice square poly character.
ok, did nothing to the character, testing export.
File export..all good.
Exported it fine.
Opened iclone -> import avatar.
Selected file:
Error: Failed to load avatar. This is not a valid avatar file.
I am presuming that the character studio file Bone_CS can convert as it is, without anything else added or changed.
I loaded the G2 character file and it exported and imported fine.
I guess I am missing something about the samples.
Can anyone help me out.

On export it has 'None Stander Character'
instead of 'None Standard Character'

| Thank you for sharing your case. Here is my second report.
We need to create expected .VNS data to make confirmation easier as no .VNS files are included in the Max_plug-in_Sample Files.
Convert given Bone_CS.max (401KB) data to .obj format by exporting through 3dsmax.
Open this obj data in iClone 3DXchange and exsport it as .VNS file.
Check the VNS data size of 154KB, not 1KB!!!
This data opens in iClone3.02 through Modify/Prop/Import and is shown in the view screen.
When you get VNS file through exporting from 3dsmax with new plug-in installed, the exported file size will become only 1KB and only follwing characters are contained in the file.

This data cannot be opened in iClone3 or 3DXchange even the file name is shown.

| | Hi not had to much chance to look at all the items in the developers bits for max been ill but did look at Character Studio Bones. As I can see and have tried out following the instructions http://developer.reallusion.com/whitepaper/Tutorial_CS/default.htm and they do work but it for creating Motions not Characters hope this helps no need to run anything through 3d exchange as it creates an iMotion file that you can import straight into iClone 3. duchess
