I can imagine how that might be what I'm looking for. It's not exactly point and click, looks like a project in itself to figure it out. I'll give it a shot.
Like everything else in iClone there is the surface stuff, easy to use right away. Then when you dig deeper it just keeps on getting more involved. Guess that's the attraction.

RE: Animate your models - Path Helper
jonny.batch (2/17/2009)
I've been using this method and it's good for what it does. Once you have gained experience with this method, you can create some really advanced helpers that can fit most needs.
If you haven't seen this part of the help guide you can find it under;
Set - Prop - Creating Animation Helper.

RE: Animate your models - Path Helper

I've been using this method and it's good for what it does. I completely understand what you're saying but the problem is that no matter how much I zoom out, the helper rolling prop is not there. Even when I use the camera view to look at it specifically, it's not there. The banking one is fine - no problems. Is this what you have in your scene manager?
Hi,

You are quite right that the Rolling Helper doesn't show in the Preview Window like the Banking Helper. It should be remembered that these helpers were designed for iClone2 and so problems can be encountered when using them with iClone3.

A much better method in iClone3 is to create your own helpers that do exactly the same thing as the downloadable iClone2 versions. Full instructions can be found in the help guide (Press F1) under Set - Prop - Creating Animation Helper. Give this a try and see if it helps you solve the problem.

RE: Animate your models - Path Helper

Hi Peter - thanks for your patience. When I tried to load the rolling helper, nothing shows up for me to link to. In the Scene Manager, under Info, it says 0 for the helper. It does however show up in the timeline with all of the perform commands. I've downloaded it twice - the rolling helper iClone file I have is 57.7 KB. Do you have any suggestions on how I can fix this? Thank you.
Oh, if it matters, I have iClone Pro 3.1.
Hi,
Just do the following to link to the helper in iClone3:
Zoom out your view after adding the helper so you can see it in the Preview Window.
Then with the your chosen prop selected press Pick Parent under Linkage.
Now choose the Helper in the Preview Window.
Back under Linkage select Link To (see below) to open the Link To Sub-Node window.
Select Box01 and tick Align Position To Parent.
That should do it. :)

RE: Animate your models - Path Helper

Hi Peter. This will vary from model to model so you should check to see if the model you are importing contains parts that could be animated. There are a number of tutorials that explain how to do this below:

http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/3dx_usecase.asp

When it comes to the tutorials you should try going through them more than once if need be until things become clearer. Skipping things because it isn't clear the first time can make things harder to grasp later on. Practice makes perfect so don't give up. I'm sure you will pick things up the more you use the software.

RE: Animate your models - Path Helper

I just bought the 3dxchange and the tutorial was difficult for me because they said to do certain things to make the airplane wheels seperate uncheck but so many checks and i just didnt get it.
