I'd find it a HUGE, HUGE help if it was possible to start and stop the Puppeteering Previews by clicking something on screen (maybe the Button marked "Space") rather than having to reach for the keyboard which is awkward and disruptive for me.

Observations from a Few Tests

Face Profile: The ability to see the Characters face in Action using the Facial Profile feature before application is helpful so you know how the reaction settings will appear in advance.

Puppeteering:

Puppeteering Control and Preview is an excellent addition. With the various settings you can control various functions directly linked to the characters facial components and see how they would actually move when modifying them on the timeline. This allows expressive measures that produces more reality in the facial expressions previously not available except through manual manipulation....really handy tool addition that should be experienced.

The Edit Control Fly-out for the Puppeteers Control is fantastic to allow editing of specific parts related to the components of the expressions. It allows manipulation control by deciding beyond the defaults how much each portion is actually manipulated...extremely handy feature. Kudos to this being added. Works great!

I would like to see puppeteers control for the character ears perhaps. It would come in handy to see the ears flap
depending on the character used (i.e. Elephant) and the script applied... think Dumbo the Elephant and his ears were always mobile horizontal, vertical, or in depth perception.

Motion Clips:
Movement and resize of the Motion Clips is a breeze. The expansion and contraction of the clips to fit the situation makes it easy to apply specific facial sequences where they belong or fit without having to repeat the copy/paste process in the previous versions.

The ability to un-group motion clips allows movement of specific pieces as necessary too...big difference in the
previous version to this one...well done on this ability being added. Once un-grouped they become part of the timeline and can be selected using the drag process and then re-grouped again and saved as a customized Motion Clip for future use. Basically an overlay feature to the script that can be further modified or enhanced as the author sees fit...very flexible addition to the program, to say the least.

The presets are extremely time savings with the ability to use portions and join clips to another to make customized ones from pieces of others...can't say enough about the features added...impressed with it is a good start!

One thing that would be nice is if the addition of Motion Clips wouldn't wipe out the SFX that are already on the timeline such as TEXT balloons, etc. They wipe out these and then they have to be re-created to add them back in. This is not a problem as long as there is awareness of it happening before hand. I just right clicked, copied the SFX to the clipboard, placed the Motion Clip on the timeline and then slid it over to create a clear opening so I could paste the SFX back into the timeline where it was before the Motion Clip was added. The Motion Clips can then be moved back and it no longer wipes out the SFX like it does when just placed over it. The user should be made aware of it, so they don't accidentally wipe out something and then wonder where it went. The UNDO button comes in extremely handy when something like this happens however, so nothing was lost.

I will still continue the tests as time allows. But so far the only glitch really is the Flash Output which as already stated, will be functional in the final version so that was expected.

CrazyTalk5 & CrazyTalk5 pro

Note: CrazyTalk 5 Pro is the upgrade version of CrazyTalk 4 Media Studio; CrazyTalk 5 is the upgrade version of CrazyTalk 4 Messenger.

Entering unicode characters

Hi,

I'm trying to enter unicode characters into the speech bubbles in CT5beta It works for characters like æ Á á , but anything more exotic like Chinese etc 你好。 你会说汉语吗？ends up as garbage code. (Target / (Others) Use Full Image settings)

problem 1.. sequential TGA's came out with minor corruptions. Namely solid red pixel lines and spots around the sides.

problem 2.. trying to render out a 2nd serving gave me a 'not enough space' type of error. My first HDD of choice had 70gb free. It didn't allow me to render out again until I had deleted my glitched TGA output (and emptied from the Recycle Bin). No glitches with BMP, great... but try rendering another sequence out right after and I get the same space error once more. So I tried one of my other HDD's which had around 20gb free. These sequences averaged out about 1.5gb by the way. So the next HDD... works fine... until I try rendering yet again. My work around was to render out to that 2nd HDD, copy back to the bigger one that was my first preference, delete from the 2nd HDD, Empty from recycling bin, then rendering would work. But only with that routine.

A "Maybe" glitch. I found the puppeteer sometimes 'stuck' when blinking. I couldn't tell if this was due to the performance of my system, or just part of the beta phase, but some of the blinks I instigated made my character keep her eyes closed for more than a just a quick click.

Suggestions. (only the first one is 'vital' really)

The ability to change images on already setup shots. It would be easier than implementing an alpha export option.. this way those of us that DO know what we're doing when compositing, we can just render out a 2nd sequence with an Alpha map sitting under the facial animation without having to attempt setting up a new point map. This would also be handy for altering the character's look too for repeat visits. Say some of us want to have regular use of a single pose while altering things like hair or clothing and other such little colour/trinket details in photoshop. A source image swap option would be incredibly useful.

Another track on the timeline to enter text. Allow us to have a direct, scalable textual reference for the dialogue we're dealing with. It would make direct manipulation of the lip sync points far more efficient for the more advanced users.

Possibly a way to use the text-to-speech import and be able to keep the keys it creates when importing the actual audio track afterwards, and just moving the more precise text-to-speech keys by hand. That would be very handy too. A multiple slot clipboard like Microsoft Word could solve this problem without having to alter the timeline perhaps?

Xonrad
www.XONRAD.com</a.
www.RockErode.com

Suggestions

Hello,
the survey when ending the program doesn´t work, so i write my suggestions into the forum.

Startup: It should be possible to start the program without model/script.

Model: A great step forward is, that the control points are now connect with bezier lines. The ability to change the anchor points (angle between the lines) would be nice too.

A hair outline, which affects head movement but not facial distortion

Rotating the outlines in (pseudo)3d space (x/y axis) for better fitting (for example half profile).

Ability to create custom profiles

Custom eyes/teeth are hard to handle, there should be a possibility to distort them (perspective) and to resize x/y axis separately (eyes)

It would be nice to take the original eyes/teeth direct from the photo.

Puppeteering Mode: A play button, which can be switched on/off and plays the script while testing puppeteering.

More morph targets in p-mode, like in "creating key" mode.

Set key: a link button on symmetrical targets (links right with left brow, for example)

Timeline: The facial animation track could be expandle with sub tracks for all morph targets, to set the keypoint individually, with different types of interpolation (linear, cubic, bezier, constant).

Just some ideas.

I great programm, i already ordered the update.

more to come...

Confused about purchased ct 5 pro

I have prepaid for Ct-5 pro, now Somebody clear something up for me please:)

Is it gonna work with IC 2.5 or will I have to wait for IC 3.0?

Bummer if that is the case. There are a few errors, one being the sides of the image outside the face boundaries moving but since making this Ive learned that even that is easily fixed.

Anyway, it's really sweet and quite heartwarming as opur own "Thi-Mai" Wannabe wishes her friends a Happy Christmas and forgets her lines.

See what you think.

Armstrong

http://www.iclonetutorials.co.uk/temp/TheRealThiMai.html

Particularly, I think the ability to add expressions and facial movement after the initial wave file has been inserted is incredible. Excelling forethought.
This is an excellent idea to animate it expressively stage by stage.
I dont know if anyone else has played with this who is not familiar with it, but in general, this adds an entire new scope to talking saucepans, animals, shoes, pillows and even spiders webs and clouds in the sky.
I'm really impressed with this. I dont have a thoroughbred application for it here......... aside from layering the output against the bark of trees in a woodland scene and overlaying it with iClone Studio output.
But this in itself is incredible and keeps that elusive Disney feature well secured.
Quite an education and Ive lost alot of hours playing with this.
It's as complicated or as simple as you want it to be. I think that element alone is impressive. Alot of good fun.
The above example is literally the first time Ive played with this software and it made everyone here laugh really and fight for my computer. :P:P
Thanks Visconti for sending me the data. Laughter is definitely the best remedy. :)

Happy Christmas

Hi thought I would send you a Christmas Greeting using the Crazy Talk Beta 5. I suppose there's a reason for that?

This is so you guys can sell me an upgrade to IClone to do better facial animations sometime in the near future, right? It'll be the same software, but I'll get to pay for it twice. Once for CT 5 pro, and once for IClone 2.x? Oh I'm so thrilled.

You've got some decent products guys. Too bad you have this sales plan that assumes your customers are wealthy and stupid. I know, I know, that's not what you're doing. It just looks that way. My usage is to create animated heads for characters, and then animating them together with the rest of the body in After effects or other animation tools.

This works somehow, but could be improved:

IMPORT: Alphachannel integration could be better. After testing with different footage, it looks like Straight alpha channels are only supported, and premultiplied not very good integrated(premultiplied sources gives a bad result with lots of color "stroke").

When importing PNG or TGA with alpha, the program doesn't say anything about it(e.g. Use alpha channel, ignore alpha channel, straight or premultiplied?). This would be useful(compare to after effects interpret footage dialogue box). (OK, I know the "Background Mask Editing, says something about it, and shows the alpha channel "mask")

DURING WORK IN CT: When the picture is imported the program shows the "RGB Straight" and NOT the RGB, which would be preferred and logical. Its not interesting watching the RGB Straight with the background showing that was supposed to be hidden by the alpha channel.

EXPORT: When exporting with alpha channel, nothing shows which format that supports alphachannel. Choices could be: (Alpha channel: None/Straight/premultiplied).

RLE COMPRESSION: AND, in TGA format, the RLE compression would be a nice saver of space on production harddrives.

The Output-part of CrazyTalk has been improved a lot, and look more intuitive and works a lot better.
