Thank you for that information. I will look out for NVIDIA. Just like you, I was having problems with a number of programs so it will be interesting to see the difference a new card makes.

Thanks to Nigel's suggestions on graphics card in another post - I bit the bullet and swapped out my ATI card with an NVIDA - I went to ebay and picked one up for $20.50 - didn't think I could go wrong that way. I've got to tell you, it has made ALL the difference in the world. Obviously I didn't get the greated and latest, but I got the 8400 series and tripled the on-board memory with the new card. I'm having fun again - the graphics card issue will solve a lot of problems - not just with iClone, but I noticed that being true with a few of my other programs. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in too, take care and good luck ;)

I have just read this forum on the motion editor and I have had the same problem. My graphics card is an ATI radeon HD 2400 and I have the latest drivers. I am very disappointed that I will need to look at buying a NVIDIA card to run Iclone. Thankfully, I have only had the trial version of Iclone and have not yet laid out the money to buy it. I think I will try some other products first before I buy a new video card. My computer is only 6 months old. I have also found that turning the Hardware Acceleration off lets me use the motion editor, and then I need to turn it back on to use Iclone. Whilst I have l found a work-around it is a bit of a nuisance and I will write to ATI first. I don't expect much but I will let you guys know if I get any useful response. Just as a matter of interest, I had a similar problem of my PC rebooting when I tried to view a slideshow in Adobe Bridge. The solution that I got from Adobe was to set my preference settings to disable the hardware acceleration while viewing the slideshow. Adobe has obviously found a work around, but surely ATI cards should be better?

Well done James for perservering with the problem and getting some kind of resolution. The problem for support when it comes to issues like this is that there are just so many hardware configurations out there and it's impossible to be able to test on everything.

Your own research will help others I'm sure. Tinkering with graphic card settings etc is not always possible for everyone, especially novices and indeed care has to be taken but for you it has been rewarding. Thanks for coming back and updating us.

In my quest to figure this out I have found more on the issue itself, and a crude work around. I was able to get the crash dump, which contained a STOP 0x0000008E error, and after I did a little research I found that was caused by a graphics driver trying to change the hardware acceleration settings in windows. So I went into display properties/advanced/troubleshoot and I turned my hardware acceleration all the way off. Now the motion editor works with out crashing, however the main iClone program did not because it seems to need some direct draw function calls that are off with no acceleration. After much experimenting I found that the motion editor will work with hardware acceleration on the 3rd notch in from the left ( or just left of center) however iClone itself appears to need a higher setting then that to function. So now I am able to use both apps, if I switch my hardware acceleration back and forth between them. This is hardly ideal, but perhaps it might help others who may have run into this problem. I'm also updating my support ticket with this info so hopefully it will help point the devs in the right direction for the next update or 3.0

I did get a reply from support, unfortunately it basically tells me to get an Nvidia card. That's not realistic for me as I just built this system. It bums me some as I was really excited about iClone, but I guess I'll check back after 3.0 is out and see if that works with ATI cards.

I emailed support the end of last week about this issue, and updated the issue with the additional testing info I gathered. Unfortunately I have yet to hear anything back from them beyond the auto response email saying they had received my email and would get back to me in 2-3 business days. I'm starting to think it's problem without an answer. Maybe I'll check back after 3.0 is released and see if that works with ATI cards.

Thanks for supplying more information and all the testing you have done. There does seem to be more problems associated with ATI cards than Nvidia and this is something that should be looked into. It doesn't affect all ATI cards though because I have used an old ATI 9700 without problems in the past.

You could try contacting Support who may have more information regarding this issue with some ATI cards. Using the support form linked below is the best way to contact them.

I've done some more testing here, and it looks like the issue might be with ATI cards. I have an older system at home that I installed iClone on with a low end 7xxx series geforce card in it and the motion editor worked. I was able to click and move the dummy around without issues.

To test further, this morning I installed iClone at two system at my office. My main system which has an ATI 2900XT video card ( older drivers 7.10's) locked up at exactly the same point when I clicked in the 3d view screen on the motion editor. The other system I have at work is a Dell Vista machine with a GeForce 7900GS and it worked fine with iClone. So in my testing both ATI machines locked up at the same exact point ( with different cards and driver versions) while both GeForce machines worked fine. I did manage to trap an error message from my work machine.

I'm using an Asus ATI 3870 512meg video card with the latest 8.2 catalyst drivers. I have tried a couple recent version of the catalyst drivers ( back to the 7.11's) with identical results. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iClone but also had the same result. Being that I have isolated the crash to clicking in the motion editors 3d view window, and only when the edit button is pressed, I thought perhaps I had a corrupted .dll or something but the reinstall didn't help.

My computer is a freshly built XP pro desktop system, thats had all the Microsoft updates installed, and it's been running flawlessly except for this crash in the motion editor. I really like what I see in iClone, I just can't justify spending the money until I can figure out the cause of these crashes.

Hi James,

Which graphics card are you using, and is it a laptop or desktop? If you are using an onboard graphics chip with shared memory this can sometimes cause problems.

Has anyone figured out what's causing this issue? I'm pretty interested in iClone, but it's too pricey to plop down the cash without testing damn near every aspect I can... and since the basic motion parameters included don't nearly cover what I'd like, I need to get an idea of how hard it is to edit my own motions... but every time I load the motion editor, it locks and gives me an error...

I have similary problem. iClone Motion Editor 2.1 (2007-07-03 release) don't work and restart system after clossing.
I use WinXP, card: Intel X3000 128mb.

Another MultiMedia editors working correctly.
Anybody can help me?

thnx for trying to help me but I have all part of that properly installed in my PC..And another software which I used for video creating workin' fine without any problems (progr. like Pinnacle Edition,Poser...etc.)..

But if nothing of that helped me I will install my Windows again like fresh install into formated HD than will install all software what I need for (my bussines) and sure, again I will install iClone...

Than...we will see what happend...I don't have any another idea what I can do about (with) that problem.
Today I was send my e-mail to "support@reallusion.com" with all part which thay need to see what happend (like dxdiag..snapshout...)....

Still no luck with the MFC42.dll - - can't seem to find a version that works as it seems most of those articles are about win98 and i'm running xp pro.

Bobo.... before i had this mfc problem with iclones ME i had a similar problem with It's me's Motion editor crashing with no error message due to the extreamly crap Direct X installer from Microsoft.

Everytime i tried to download the installer, or the redistrubitable installer it would run through and 'instantly' appear to be installed. I think some of the files were being locked by the operation system and so Direct X wasnting installing properly. Consequently motion editor crashed cause direct x wasnt installed properly.

After trying to uninstall and update manually i found the way i fixed it was by installing a game that also includes an automated directx install. Some games like Quake 4 or something like that will include a 'do you want to install direct x 9c?' - For some reason the bundled installer didnt care about the file locking and it updated direct x properly. - After that Motion Editor ran fine for me...... That was the It's Me Version though... but i guess its an idea?

Did you install other applications after installing iClone? According to some documents I found, it seems that the file is overwrited by an older version:

There're many possible reason contributed to the error, I'd suggest you to find a solution in Microsoft site, it would much safer to your OS:

Thanks for your reply and suggestions - I tried reinstalling, and tried the MFC42.dll from that site in both the iclone and the windows\system32 directory and it gave me a differnt error message "The ordinal could not be located in the dynamic link library MFC42.dll"

So i think the version on that site is too old.

If you could - could someone PM me the dll they have that works?

Hi..I'm new there and sorry for my english..

I have that problem, mean with Motion editor.Everytime when I try to start tham main window of Motion Editor has freezed..I was send two e-mail to reallusion's support desk with my spec. from "dxdiag" and with snapshoot and ask him for a help but nobody answer me..I was reinstalled software but nothing helped...Sometime I can open Motion Editor if I first open project "default" in the iClone.But not work all time like that..'cause that i say "something"..!..In other thing...all folders (maps) in my root directory of the MotionEditor is empty...That must be like that?...I'm very angry about all of that...I was buy that software not for gameing with him and Motion editor is one of the bigeer reason why I was buy iClone software.

Without Motion Editor iClone (for me,in my opinion) is software for fun and I don't need only that solution (for my money)

Anybody can help me?

Hi Guys,

Iclone is working fine but when i load Motion editor it crashes citing mfc42.dll. It looks like its just when the GUI trys to load the Library section. Any help greatly appreciated,
