Changing a processor is a big system change and can have a knock on effect with already installed software.

Personally whenever I make a change to processor or motherboard I always do a reinstall of the OS because problems always seem to surface afterwards in one form or another. As everything else appears ok you should try reinstalling iClone first as this is the much easier option for you.

Just remember to uninstall first. Backup both your custom folders and the iClone 2 template folder if you have installed any content packs to save you time afterwards.

You should find the folders to backup in the following locations if you accepted the default install locations.

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Reallusion\Custom\iClone 2 Custom

Windows Vista

C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Reallusion\Custom\iClone 2 Custom

Windows XP and Vista

C:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone 2\Template\iClone Template[/quote]
Hello Peter,

Many thanks for the reply. I, like you have mentioned, do normally re-install my OS after new hardware is added, however due to the time restrictions and advice for my IT consultant, I decided to skip it. I normally re-build my PC often during the year but this upgrade was unscheduled and needed doing.

Like I said, every other piece of software worked afterwards, Poser, After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, etc. So I just assumed iClone would and the thought of going through a complete re-build for one piece of software was daunting.

However I obviously now realise that major hardware changes do in fact have a big impact on iClones coding structure, a re-install was the only choice. As you can imagine backup is your best friend, but you still need to re-install all the content packs and then check them. Considering I have quite a few of these, it took some time :doze:

Well at least I have learned something about the internal workings of iClone and at least I never lost anything :w00t:

Thanks again.

Capemedia :)

RE: Help!!!! - iClone wont work after upgrade.

Hi Cape,

I would certainly try uninstalling iClone and reinstalling again. On the 25th March 2008 I upgrade my processor and added an addition hard drive to my machine. We updated the BIOS so XP would recognise my new processor and everything worked fine.
Every other piece of software on my machine works, but iClone. On start it stops when it gets to the "Selecting Direct X device" and nothing happens.
I have updated all drivers, checked the Direct X control panel, run my anti-virus, restored XP to the day of the build, looked through the FAQ's, forum’s, but nothing seems to be wrong.
Do I need to re-install iClone?
Please help as I am currently working on a very important film and this is the first time iClone has let me down.
I have submitted a form to support, but I hope someone on here might have some idea.
Many thanks.
Capemedia
