Just for the record I recently installed Magix Movie Edit Pro 14 without installing iClone SE. There did not seem to be any point in installing the SE version as I already have iClone version 2.5. This was easily achieved using a custom install. Maybe there are two or more versions of the installation setup. i.e. a change in the Magix marketing strategy.

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

It's all good :D

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

Hi,

The answer I gave about the registry would have been the same for everyone regardless of sex or age so please don't think my comments were because you are a woman. That is certainly not the case. I just have no way of knowing the level of experience of forum members.

I also don't think it would be responsible of me to write here how to edit the registry as this could lead to others less experienced trying it and possibly making their computers unusable. It really is a case of if someone is experienced in registry editing enough to make the changes then they will know how to do it already without me telling them.

Plus there are a lot of tutorials available on registry editing available on the net so I would advise a search on Google etc if you want to find out more on the subject. But remember anything you attempt is done at your own risk. Things can and do go wrong so be careful.

Pete

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

It is often thought that since I'm a woman AND not a spring chicken, I don't undertsand computers - no offense taken here, but this old Queen of DOS actually can figure things out once in a while. I am quite familiar with the registry - are you saying, then, that once I build my preferred physical directory, I can make the change in my registry - at how many points does Reallusion plant directory information throughout the registry? I could do a search, I suppose but your input would be nice here :P (of course, I'll back it up first) Also, it's not the purchased content that's troubling me, my custom projects and use of importing tons of Google warehouse accessories and props (via 3dexchange) are taxing my local drive. I'd hate to wait for my iclone 3 purchase. I look forward to your suggestion :D

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?
motherreiver (4/11/2008)
This brings up a question for me. I don't mind the iclone program being on partition C, but I would sure love for the custom content to be on partition E, is there some configuration I can do to accomplish that? My partition C is getting loaded and I would love to have all my custom templates on my larger partition - can this be done, and if it can, will I compromise speed?
The location for your custom folder is chosen when you install iClone. It defaults to the C: drive but it can be changed to another drive.

Once iClone has been installed it is not so easy to change. Settings can be changed in the registry but this is only for advanced computer users who know what they are doing. Making changes to the registry can results in programs or worse your computer not working.

Also worth noting is that any content packs you purchase are installed into the program directory and not the custom folder so no reduction in disk space will be gained from moving the custom folder to the D: drive for content packs.

So unless you want to reinstall you may be better leaving it where it is for now until the next time you need to install the software.

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

This brings up a question for me. Doesn't seem right not to offer a custom install option. When there are a number of applications to be installed having the option to choose what you want is a must.

Pete

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

I also just installed IClone when I got Magix Video Edit 14. It doesn't ask you where you'd like it installed. In fact, it doesn't even give you the option not to install it. IClone SE is always installed in the Program Files folder on Drive C:. And, yes, it takes up about 500 megs.

I decided to take advantage of Magix's upgrade to the Studio version. I received a confirmation E-mail of my order but I have yet to receive the download link. I assume I'll have to uninstall the SE version before installing the Studio version. Magix should have made the installation an option, not mandatory.

On the plus side, Magix's upgrade price from SE to Studio is $140 US. The Standard version is $55 US. Almost makes it worth buying Magix Video Edit 14.

Bottom line is that when you buy Magix Video Edit 14, it will always install IClone SE in the Program Files folder of Drive C:, take up about 500 megs, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Lance

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

Thanks Peter.

All the Magix components gave me the opportunity to change, and I installed them on D:

Whatever method I use, including installing just iClone, it doesn't make that option available. I thought I'd have success by opening the DVD with Explore and using the setup.exe from the iClone section, but that failed too. Gave me a message along the lines of "This is not a stand-alone program. The installation will be terminated."

Some poor DVD mastering by someone along the line.

Have now uninstalled iClone, but have contacted ReAllusion Support and hope to get some help there.

--
Terry, East Grinstead, UK
RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

Hi Terry,
Thanks for the update on the situation. I 'am not familiar with the installer version that is included in that package but I 'am very surprised there is no option to change the install location.

Perhaps iClone is automatically installed in the same location as Magix which might be the problem. From your previous post I think you have tried locating just the iClone installer on the CD and installing from there, rather than through the Magix launcher. If not give that a go and see if it works.

Hopefully you will hear back from Magix about how you can resolve the problem as it is installed from their launcher on the CD so they should know.

I hope you get this resolved soon.

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

Thanks both, appreciate the prompt replies.

Peter,

Thanks, but as mentioned I don't get that standard opportunity. The Magix install DVD screen looks like this:

The iClone 2 SE link then starts the installation, with no option to change location.

I've also emailed Magix Support.

popeye,

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I did it correctly, because the About menu shows a serial number
(and 'Product Version : 2.1.1212.1').

--
Terry, East Grinstead, UK
RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

Just a little bit of caution Terry before you uninstall!! Make sure you have registered your iClone so you can get your serial number back before you go to install again on D: Drive. This may be obvious but it something people forget in hast!!

Good Luck and Best wishes.

RE: How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

Hi,

When you install you should see a screen like the one below. Just click the Browse button and choose D: as your install location instead. Remember to uninstall the version from the C: drive first.

How to move iClone from C: to D: ?

Hi, First post here.

One of the new programs that was automatically installed yesterday with my new Magix Movie Editor 14 Pro Plus was ReAllusion iClone. I did not get any option and it installed itself on C:, taking nearly 500 MB. That partition is nearly full, which is why I always install new stuff on D:

So I uninstalled it and then ran the iClone installation from the Magix DVD. But it still gives me no opportunity to change the destination!

I could try just manually shifting the whole folder to C:\Program Files, but that will conflict with registry settings. How do I do this please?

--
Terry, East Grinstead, UK
