Hi Peter

Yes its certainly baffling but at least I can use IClone now whereas before I was unable to due to it freezing every couple of minutes. At the moment the programme is stable and usable so I can live with the black thumbnails by using the work around. So I have a lot of catching up and learning to do having been out for circa 6 months.

Hi Shalako,

It's certainly a strange one. Everything you have listed about your PC seems more than adequate. What about the graphics side? It's possibly something to do with that but the fact your partners identical computer works with iClone fine seems to say no to that one.

The only times I have had the thumbnails not showing up is when I was running too many other apps at the same time and resources were low. Are you using a graphics chip that uses shared memory or do you have dedicated memory on the card itself? That might make a difference.

I don't blame you for trying anything you can to see if it helps. I've been amazed at the weirdest of things that can resolve problems in the past with other software.

I changed the mouse from a USB mouse to a standard mouse and it has managed to stop the programme freezing. The thumbnails are still black however, trying the Head face teeth etc workaround does recover the thumbnails eventually but when you restart the programme thumbnails are still black.

Hi Peter

My HD is defragged on a regular basis in fact yesterday to be precise. I have a 465G hard drive of which 454GB is free. I have 9.6G of processing power. as to memory I have 3.02G of physical memory available and 2.00G virtual memory available. I have two programmes different on my task bar from my partner one being Norton. She on the other hand has loads more in her taskbar and is a real hoarder.......you know what women are like:P

At the moment I am even trying silly things like changing the mouse to match that of my partner to see if it could even be as ridiculous as that.

Will keep you informed of any progress but would be interested to hear if Reallusions support are still working on this.

Hi Shalako,

As you say that iClone 2.5 works perfectly on your partners identical computer then I think it would be wise to try and find what the difference is between your computers that is causing the problems. Look to see what you have installed compared to your partner.

It could be that you have software installed at startup that is hogging memory causing the problems. A quick indication would be the number of icons you have in the bottom right of your desktop. A better way would be to check your resources in the Task Manager if you know how to do that.

Perhaps your hard disk is badly fragmented and needs defragging which would certainly help all round. Also are you low on free hard disk space which could be making the situation worse? If so try removing any unwanted software you don't need. Computers these days often come with a lot of "bloatware" pre-installed. Much of this can often be removed if you never use it.

Just a few ideas that may help. I hope you get it resolved soon.

Whilst so far I have not been able discovered the real reason this workaround may help you until the problem is better understood. I appreciate not being able to see the content of the thumbs makes it very difficult to use iClone.

Yes that does appear to work! Agree that it MUST be a bug! Found also that they sometimes vanish again later and you have to go through the same process to get them back!

Hi There

A a brand new user of iClone (only purchased this week) I also have this problem. I have tried using a Radeon X1600 and GeForece 7200GS Graphic adapters both of which are on the supported list but have the same problem. It does not appear to be related to memory as even with iClone running I still have 1.2 GB free Ram. Also I can start iClone and the thumbnails appear, do nothing, close and restart it and they have vanished. I have tried V2.0 and V2.0 with the 2.5 patch and both behave in the same way.

Any thoughts?

I get this alot here at work too. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Usually the only other thing I'll have open besides iClone is Outlook and I'm wondering if should submit a bug. Sometimes my thumbnails refuse to show for days at a time (even if I do restart) and for sure whenever I get a new e-mail message and that bubble pops up from Outlook, iClone completely crashes.

In addition I'd like to point out that I have almost 4 gigs of RAM and a 3.4 GHz Pentium D so I seriously hope it's not memory issues!

I am very much looking forward to iClone 3 and hope that alot of this will be fixed :)

Last night after I defragged my computer and did various system maintenance viewing the thumbnails returned. This evening it happened all over again even after I made sure no other programs were running; but I went into task manager and removed tasks I knew I wouldn't need for this session, going back, it opened up again. So, I think you're right, when my computer get's taxed iClone doesn't behave; looks like I've got a lot of cleanup work ahead. Thanks for responding and for your suggestions, it's much appreciated.:D

Hi,

When this problem has happened to me it normaly occurs in low memory situations such as when running several applications at once. There could be another reason but as you said it was ok at first this may be the reason. Have you tried re-starting your computer and then opened up iClone as the only app running and see how things are then.

I installed v. 2.5 two days ago and everthing was find, content and all. I have all the same hardware and have done nothing different (add/delete to computer); sufficient memory, graphics card etc. All at once this evening, I CANNOT see the thumbnail images of my media resources to pick and choose. Once I select, they show up in the window fine, but this is interfering with my ability to use the program. Can someone tell me what button I must have pressed to deny mself access to viewing the thumbnail resource/media images.

Please help me so I can get back to learning and creating. Thank you so much:)
