Hello all. I was wondering if there are any filmmakers coming from a traditional background using iclone? I have some ideas I would like to try out, short films and scenes from feature length films. I experimented with Moviestorm and feel that iclone is a superior product. Just like with MS, there are some things that I find odd about iclone and how you actually make something in the software.

I just wanted to make a scene with two people talking in a room. Where are the walls, and walls with doors and windows in them to take advantage of the amazing lighting options shown by our friend "Clonebot Zack"?

SO, I go looking for a 'set' for a living room and the search is no help s I have to go through pages manually, then I find some sets with no walls, and in particular I would at least like to have walls with doors that are iprops so its easy to use. If I buy a set that doesn't have the interactive door then its a waste as I can just make the walls and door in sketchup.

Should I be investing more time in using sketchup and sketchy physics to create operating doors and windows and then assign some kind of aml script to them ?????

Another thing, on a 'real' set its great to have the option of being able to get rid of a wall so you can move the camera back and use a longer lens setting. You should keep that in mind when creating a proper set template.

No Manual Yet?
I would love to see this thing as I have wasted 2 weeks figuring out what this software can or can't do. Is the manual for iclone3 worth looking at if it there all all these new features in version 4?

Naming conventions:
Its kind of hard to figure out where everything is as there are so many folders of stuff to go through. The fact that a movement for a character can be in multiple places means that you have to write down everything or keep checking the reference

OK, this is so far off-topic I didn't know where to post it, but this caught my attention and perhaps someone else will find it interesting.

WIRED has an [url=http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2009/11/wowpapercrafts/]article[/url] on World of Warcraft fans who create paper models of the fabulous WOW menagerie.

It turns out that they are using this application called [url=http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/]Pepakura[/url].

This sucks in certain 3D formats and creates a not-really-origami template for cutting, folding, and glueing.

Hello, I am a newbie...I was super excited when I got iclone3, however it has all turned to frustration. I have been running into issue after issue. As of now I am still unable to get my avatar dressed because of issues w/ clone cloth G2 Jacks Overcoat. I understand that I am new and I am sure it is my own ignorance however MY FRUSTRATION COMES FROM THE LACK OF HELP. I have read FAQ, until I am blue in the face. I have watched the tutorials...I have asked questions to the forum and the support center and I have to wait 2 - 3 business days for a response which usually leads to another questions I have to answer and start waiting anothe 2- 3 days to get a response to the questions they are asking me. I am have technical issues. Couldn't/ Shouldn't there be a better method of response(online live assistance for instance) I sit by computer just praying that SOMEONE/ANYONE will respond. Is anyone out there that can have a conversation in 15 minutes as opposed to 3 days. My ramblings are a result to my frustration and lack of knowledge. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

I have been looking in on the forums, and watching some of the movies by other members.Must say I'm very impressed.

That's why I've just purchased Iclone 3 Pro. (did not realise that number 4 was coming out, but did'nt want to jump in too deep).

Basically, I was looking for something to pass the time away, now that I no longer work due to retirement.I'm really into photography, and was looking for some kind of software that I can use as backgrounds etc.Searching on the internet led me here, and the price was within my budget,plus as I have'nt done anything like this before,I did not want to go in over my capabilites.

Anyway,apologies for babbling on,I'm sure I'll be picking everyone's brains shortly(have'nt even opened the box yet) and look forward to your responses.

I'm still a newbie to iClone. After hours of fiddling, reading and following tutroials, I've started on a short project called "The Dance" (attached as a zip file). I would like feedback from the "experienced ones", especially on how to move their feet, without hours of work (if possible). The video is in mp4 less than 1 minute, I used iClone3PRO.

Hey! I have come to this site many times peeking at its products and I am finally ready to buy. Now I just need a little help deciding what to get. First of all, iClone looks really cool but I have no experience in something like this. Is that a problem? I am willing to learn but I want to make sure it is not for advanced users only. I am also wondering if I should start out with the standard version rather than pro? I would like to make some things just for fun and other videos to promote websites, products, etc. Is iClone the best thing for this or would something else they offer be better? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Please be as specific as you can if you recommend something. I would just like to know why! :)

Hello,

I'm Xaara. I'm retired and have been a 3D Art & Animation hobbyist for many years. I've played with a wide variety of 3D programs; Raydream, Infini-D, TrueSpace (started with V2.x), Animation Master, Cinema4D, Poser (started with V3.x), Bryce, Vue D'Spirit, Hexagon, Rhino, Modo (currently V301), PMG Messiah, and Carrara (to name a few). I suppose that makes me a 3D junkie.

I'm a pretty good modeler and I'm totally hooked on Modo as my primary modeling and texturing tool because it makes UV map creation fun instead of a chore.

Though I try, I'm not very good at animation. Well...I'm not very good at character animation. I can animate objects, textures, lights, etc.. But animating actual characters is not my forte. I can "cheat" with Poser by using BVH files that I find around the web. But finding just the right BVH file for a particular scene and combining it with action from other BVH or keyframed animation is still a daunting task.

That's why I became interested in iClone. I can't fully use iClone yet, because the graphics card in my primary workstation doesn't have pixel-shader support. But I'll soon have a new quad-core machine with an appropriate graphics card. Then I hope to be able animate some real stories as I've always imagined.

So, that's my intro. I'm about to post my first request for help in the General forum. I hope someone can help me there.

Hello out there!!!!!

I'm very, very new to iClone but have been interested in 3d animation for years and years and years..... (I can't really draw) and programs like 3Ds Max have a very steep learning curve. I see a lot of potential here to get up and running fairly quickly. BUT....I am looking for a tutorial or a sequence of tutorials, a book or a website or websites that will take me by the hand, showing step by step by step on how to use iClone. I've played around with the basics and before you mention it, I've seen the tutorials listed on YouTube, but in what order should they be viewed or are there other tutorials????

Help Needed - Did not see a Help topic

I haven't had a lot of problems with Iclone crashing except when I have a huge set with lots of animation and props which I tend to do when I make films. However, I have a scene where I have five men all riding horses and two carts with horses attached. The scene keeps crashing. Is there anything I can do about this? And I get a weird thing going on before it crashes. I get the message "Do you want to save" or something to that effect and then the program stalls before it crashes as soon as I click on the farm horse. This only happens with I have more than 6 horses on a set. And it happens on an empty set too. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. This is a great program.

From iClone program select:
Set > Props > 3d Blocks > Select: Ball_001

If you 'Zoom' to the Ball you will notice the 'Ball' does not show in full circle; look like circle made of several small line. Also under 'Preview' you do not see it as full circle?
Do you know how to fix it? How could I create full circle?

OK...Im a complete noob to iclone.....i downloaded the free version and loved it, and now im going to purchase a full copy, i have compared the std and pro versions, and the only difference i can see is that the pro has something called BVH.....is this correct ?

moving content folders

hi, I'm wondering if someone can help me, I searched help to no avail,my reallusion shared content folder in public documents while not massive, nonetheless takes up quite a bit of my limited inbuilt harddrive about 7gb I only have 50gb left. I store all my videos, daz studio content(it searches for it), etc on an external harddrive and would like to do the same with iclone, how do I create a path in the program so it will do this? settings doesn't seem to contain this option, I can move my project files and browse for them but not other content like avatars, props etc, I have lots of models imported with 3dexchange the largest component, plus avatars I have customised, I only have a laptop. I am also not exactly a geek more of an oldieish with somewhat limited pc skills though I try a lot of stuff I read online in forums and often it works though I really don't understand how, the nuts and bolts stuff. cheers wendy5:)

Hello & Importing My Own Content

Hey, out there. I'm newer than newbie having downloaded the trial programs a couple times without figuring them out... So, hello to all. Great products. I'd LOVE to finally use them.

I want to import my own content, backgrounds, and 'actors' or 'avatars'. I'm sure I saw a way to do that in the earlier versions but fighting with the recent downloads I am not finding the way to do that. I got something talking in CrazyTalk a while back but need more.

I need to make the StarKid talk [for more-less educational materials] PLUS move around and Danse and Sing... and do it in it's own environment. www.geocities.com/sric2 is where the StarKid Logo can be seen if that will help. I need 'space' backgrounds plus my beautiful forest setting which I have much of. I tried the import button at the bottom right of iClone last night but I didn't see any way to bring in the gif and digital photos [or video if possible] for backgrounds. I'm sure I made a test project with my own background years ago... Help!

So which programs so I need? I need to do overlays of energy management demonstrations like www.geocities.com/sric2/cosi1.html These are scanned from slides taken at CoSi Children's Science Center behind a screen of some sort, I think it was a thermography type screen rather than Kirlian but could have been. In any event, I need to show this in motion, preferably 3-D, and do the same with the StarKid with overlays of Lights, Auras, Lightning streeks like the one coming out the lowered hand, and the controlled energy geo forms as is coming out of the upheld hand, etc. What do I need and how do I do it? I've reviewed the tuts over and over but I just get more comfused. I have a Dell but just got a Mac Mini and wanted to do it all in the Mac... wish you had Mac based stuff. If there are Mac programs that will do this, RSVP, too, just in case. Thanks.

If to make video For example in the same iclone that its size will be rather large (even flv + red5 will slow)

I in our case 3 layers for example .
Background - image or flash on 3-4 frame,
+ persona on a transparent background (some frams in a cycle)
And a layer with mp3
+ we add a script with a certain logic
Has for example ended mp3 a file and in a layer with the person load a new file where the character any more does not move lips and is silent .
The user and in general is started the following scene.

unversal motion converter idea

ok, im a noob at animation, but i've played with computers on a music / ai level for quite a few years, art is art ...:p

so heres my universal bvh solution lol,

Every time i see the bvh converter show the animation, yet not be able to convert it ...baffles me. And I think with such a complex problem there should be an easy solution.

create a binding mesh that is like fish tubes, that clamps on to any skeleton, and replot it to your own skeleton based on the way the skeleton makes the tube move.

it would be like putting a mocap suit on a skeleton.

The way i compare this to music is, you can either convert a file digitally ....or record it analog....every solution i've ever seen has been an attempt at a digital conversion.

A skeleton rubber suit would be like recording analog, forget about converting data, just retrace it.

I don't know if this makes sense, but load the animation file, let the software automatically trace the skeleton with a rubber suit, play, done. If I can see the skeleton, why can't it be traced ?

I don't see why I always have to specify what is the hand and foot when its obvious, when people have feet for heads then we can issue updates!! :)

notice i say we, despite the fact i know nothing about creating such a thing!! lol

if I had to compare this idea to something musical , I'd say Autotune.

Need to find Maya to iClone users

I've got a question on retaining mapping UVs from Maya when importing into 3Dxchange for iClone. Anyway I can do this without remapping in iClone - currently if UV is greater than 1.0 in Maya - 3DXchange won't bring in my textures.

I have an AVI file created with Crazy Talk for youtube and have another AVI file created by converting powerpoint with narration to avi. I wish to join the 2 and submit to youtube, is it possible to combine the 2?

I have a program which I want to introduce with CrazyTalk and then demonstrate how it works with the other avi created with Wondershare Demo creator.
