I want my character to look from one person standing on his left to one standing on his right side and only the head should move (not the whole character), but cannot find out how to make this in motion editor. I tried to spin the head joint and the neck joint and the chest joint but it wouldn't solve my problem. The only solution I found is to make the whole character turn from one side to the other. But that is not what I want because it looks unnatural.

RE: motion editor
diman2 (7/20/2008)
Sorry if this started something I simply wanted to know why the motion files I create showed in iclone but i could not get them in the editor to reuse or add to, I figured I was just doing something wrong, where this went to left field somehow I will never know. Your points were well made. Its normal for threads to off on a tangent and nothing to worry about.

With the release of iClone 3.0 the Motion Editor will no longer be needed as all motion editing can be done directly from the preview window in iClone itself. This should make problems like you mentioned a thing of the past. :)

RE: motion editor

Sorry if this started something I simply wanted to know why the motion files I create showed in iclone but i could not get them in the editor to reuse or add to, I figured I was just doing something wrong, where this went to left field somehow I will never know. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they did with IC3, who knows, they might have fixed those problems. Also, when I was talking about the converter, I was not talking about being able to go from the converter to iclone to editor. I was talking about an issue where the motions that you see on the converter do not match when you bring them into ICLONE.
Regarding motion differences when converting you are right. It seems the converter does not show correctly when a bone is rotated in a way that when loaded into Iclone distorts de figure or twists the character in an odd way. This has to do with the profile in use, and certainly the default profile does not work with Poser. Also de Poser4 profile produces incorrect motions, nevertheless the bone display show an apparently good conversion. You have to struggle, by trial and error, rotating the bones affecting the character, until you get a good conversion. Some Rotations in the dials, don't allow for more than 127 degrees, causing a badly placed bone, difficult to correct, which results in a somehow distorted pose in Iclone.Do your best by trial and error.I can see no one from Reallusion has commented this thread. So, what you do is: After conversion, load the motion file into Iclone. It will load OK. Then launch the motion editor to simple save it again!!!! Funny thing! Then Open the Motion with Wordpad and change where it says 1.30 to 1.20. that's all! Now they will show in both programs Iclone and M. editor. Why this happens? My closest guess is that it was designed this way to prevent users from easily exchange motion material, or to produce usable BVH motions for other programs, because I don't think Reallusion software engineers would make such a mistake, or let it go through inside the packages, but it actually becomes a VERY annoying "feature" or "unfeature". How would you call it?I also posted some very URGENT changes in the editor, starting from fixing the file problem.1) A motion layer set is very needed to allow alteration of the original motions in BVH or native Iclone formats. A layer is needed to do things like raising hands, making body gestures, etc, while the original motion is acting.2) Inverse kinematics is needed with the hip (pelvis), torso and lower limbs at least, because if you rotate the hip for postural changes, the whole character rotates!!! and it is necessary to move back all other bones to the original position, an almost impossible feat. Try to do a female model posture and you will see what I mean!!!!3) Being able to anchor the feet to ground is VITAL to create a walk, dance or fight move. Try to create a simple walk and you will pull all your hair away before you can do anything decent!!!Let's see what Reallusion says about all this....-

RE: motion editor
meaparicio (7/15/2008)
Hey folks:Indeed a mayor problem and not a simple thing to correct. It seems a real bug in the motion editor. It is a motion file version problem. Somehow the editor cannot recognize his own files while Iclone can find them OK. I checked further and found the main reason: Accepted motion files have a version number 1.20 while files created by the motion editor are version 1.30Hence I used the HexEdit program to open each motion file and changed the version digit 3 into a 2 in each. Presto! The motions appear now in the motion editor, they do animate the icon and work OK.I am creating a small utility that will do this in batch mode, and when it is ready I will post it for all you good Icloners!!!!!If you are clever enough you can also use the word pad to do it. Just open the motion file with wordpad being careful of not using wrapping lines, then at the early first lines you will find the 1.30 text. Carefuly replace the 3 with a 2 leaving everything else unaltered. Save and test it.Don't forget to copy the original to another name before tinkering.Happy recover !!!!
that is an excellent find dude, I wonder if the motion converter has the same problem and thats why we dont see the same motion when we load the motions in iclone.

RE: motion editor

Hey folks:Indeed a mayor problem and not a simple thing to correct. You will probably want to open a few files folders to observe when you save these. I'm pretty sure that if you want to have it show up in both motion editor and in iclones, you must copy your saved file over to both:C:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone Motion Editor 2\Custom\iClone Custom\MotionC:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone 2\Template\iClone Template\Motion

RE: motion editor

Apply the Motion in iClone and then launch the Motion Editor.

motion editor

this may sound silly but i seem to be unable to access my custom motions. i can in i clone but not in the editor. only as a project. my problem is for timing purposes i built several motions to work with a music video and now i need to access them all to build the final product. i created a new folder and can find it when i move my custom motions to that folder its in iclone but not the editor itself. hope i'm making sense this is frustrating i need the ones i built not rebuildthanks for the help. it might be something simple i'm just not getting. thanks again.
