The problems you are having with iClone3 may be unrelated to this issue. </P><P>Which ATI card do you have. Does it meet the minimum requirements for iClone3?</P><P>Also please make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your card and that they are working without any errors. You can check by running <STRONG>DXDIAG.EXE</STRONG> (Click Start then Run and input <STRONG>DXDIAG.EXE</STRONG>) Look at the Display and Sound tabs for problems.</P><P>If everything appears ok spec wise, then please contact support for help with this. I can assure you that the fact that Reallusion support was unable to give you both an acceptable resolution was not down to lack of caring but purely down to not knowing enough of the changes made by Windows XP SP3 and the impact on those with AMD/ATI setups.</P><P>I also have to say that maybe it is a little unfair to compare the support departments of the largest software company in the world (Microsoft) and Reallusion. Sure Microsoft were able to get 5 support representatives out of the many 1000's they have to talk with you (jjwebb) but as you admitted they were unable to solve the problem even though they built and issued SP3. If Reallusion had the same numbers of support staff I'm sure you would have had an equal service.</P><P>Now don't take my statement above as an excuse because it isn't. No matter how big the support department is, the aim should always be to help resolve problems and in these cases they couldn't and for that I truly apologise.</P><P>I do reiterate though that Reallusion do care about their customers. I base this on the fact that in all my discussions with the team, the subject of customer satisfaction is always top of the agenda and new ways to improve things are constantly being looked at.</P><P>Again I thank you both for sharing your views. Your feelings about customer support will be noted and reviewed and hopefully this will lead to improving things for the future.

RE: IClone, SP3 and the blue screen of death

I just saw this thread, and I believe you are/were having the same problem I did with iClone. Every time I loaded the motion editor as soon as I clicked on anything to edit it would hardlock my computer. ( Intel core two, with an ATI 3870). After getting no help from iClone I found out some more on the problem myself. The error code it was throwing out for me related to something trying to adjust your video acceleration. For me I was able to get the motion editor to work, if I went into the control panel and turned down my video acceleration. However the regular iClone program will not work with your video acceleration turned down. So if you want to actually work with both parts of iClone you have to constantly be turning up and down your video acceleration, which is hardly a solution IMO. I followed up with reallusion tech support to give them all the information I had found regarding this problem hoping it would help them come up with a proper fix. The response I got was " We are glad you fixed your problem". Peter here on the forums was doing a great job trying to be helpful, but the actual tech support from reallusion was pitiful. Through out the course of my conversations with them, their main bits of advice were, try using a geforce card, or wait for iClone 3.0 to come out and see if that fixes the problem. I really liked the potential I see in iClone, but it impossible for me to work with it in it's current shape. I keep looking back here from time to time to see if there's been a patch or some sort of fix, but it seems more unlikely all the time.

RE: IClone, SP3 and the blue screen of death

June 21st. First day of spring. And I'm back up with iClone. With a $200+ NVidia GeForce 8800.I spent 4 days on the phone with microsoft support (who finally acknowledged they have a SP3 problem with AMD chips). They gave up after 4 days and recommended reinstalling XP Pro. At least they tried. Now, it is my stubborness (not wanting to wipe away my whole system just to get iClone to once again function with ATi video cards) that has kept me unproductive for so long. But, you know there's always a but, that doesn't change the fact that three different vendors support departments were completely useless in troubleshooting my problem. That the 'problem' still isn't resolved and WILL come to bite others (I'm sure of it) in the future. MS XP PRO, MS service pack 3, ATi video cards and iClone are a combination in restraint of accomplishing 3D animation. The three support departments each get a failing grade for helping a customer with a problem. Microsoft gets a 50% (they did spend a lot of time with me on the phone trying to figure this out. And from Bombay, that's a hell of a lot of phone charges they'll absorb). Reallusion gets a 25%. Kelly from their support department sent me two emails, but let's face it - he (or she) didn't put all that much time in considering my plight and passed me off to ATi and Microsoft as quickly as any hot potato has ever been buck-passed in the history of mankind. (Well, maybe that's a little over the top, but not a lot).ATi, gets the lowest grade - 5%. They sent a list of bios settings (none of which matched the bios options offered me at bootup) and declared the problem 'resolved'! When I attempted to tell them that the "solutions" they offered were unacceptable, they just restated that, as far as they were concerned, the problem had been resolved. Now isn't THAT special? And what's it all mean? Who knows. I'm out a bunch more money. I know that using iClone has become a very expensive proposition over the last 7 months. I know I'll never buy another ATi product. I know that at least Microsoft cares enough to send 5 different tech support people to the phones for long periods to try and resolve a customer's problem. Tho' it should be pointed out that none of the tech support people had more than 3 years working with Microsoft and they were all in Bombay, rather than the USA, they DID expend time and energy in trying to help me. That was WAY more than the other two vendors offered. So I guess it means that ATi and Reallusion should be ashamed of what they call tech support. It was made painfully obvious to me these last few weeks. Peter, you say Reallusion cares? What, exactly, makes you think that's a true statement? Just curious. -blue

RE: IClone, SP3 and the blue screen of death

Hi JJ,</P><P>No problem about the venting. I fully understand how you feel. I've been there myself in the past with other software just refusing to work when when everybody else seems to run it fine.</P><P>Try and hang in there if you can. I know you can't wait forever but maybe your new card will resolve your problems for you. If you can, supply the information to support that they request as this will help them greatly. Although it must be annoying to hear the "switch to Nvidia" advice, iClone does run better with Nvidia cards for most people. I have been using an Nvidia 7950GT for quite a while now and haven't had any problems with iClone at all.</P><P>Let us know how you get on with the new ATI card once you get it installed. My reply:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hello Kelly,Attached is the dxdiag text file.About IClone - reports - Product version 2.5.1018.2S/N xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxRegarding your recommendation that I buy an Nvidia card:I used to use Nvidia cards exclusively until about 7 months ago when I began using IClone. IClone never worked right with the Nvidia GeForce 6800 GS card I had (Props I would download would have strange planes within them that made them useless) At the time, after much time wasted trying to get IClone and the props to work with the GeForce, it was recommended that I buy ATi. So I did. About two months after that, I bought a new machine 'cause IClone ran so slow on my old machine. And now after only about 4 months of use, IClone stops working AGAIN. This time the recommendation is to buy Nvidia. Of course, some of my friends are recommending I jump to DAZ or Poser to do my cartoons. At this rate (I'm down a bunch of days now, almost a week) it's beginning to look like my ONLY choice is to find another 3D animation package.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Like I said, I should have just - stuck with 2D toons. -blue

RE: IClone, SP3 and the blue screen of death
Peter Edwards (6/7/2008)
Hi JJ,[snip]Obviously this doesn't lesson the feelings of frustration you are suffering because of it. The new ati card will be here in a couple of days and I'll try again to make the program work then. But the real solution to this, I'm afraid, is to shelf IClone completely 'til next time I buy a new computer. Maybe Reallusion will publish a "These are the hardware and XP system settings that IClone really works with" that really produces a stable environment, between now and the next 18 months (the time frame of my next computer purchase).I appreciate your input despite my venting so effusively at your employer. I know you're the one on the spot and I'm sorry it's you that bore the brunt of my rage. When I do ever get back to using IClone, I hope you're still here. If on the other hand you had installed an iClone upgrade or patch and the fault occured then of course the cause would be down to Reallusion without argument. </P><P>When things like this happen its easy to point at the software not working but clearly something in SP3 is causing problems with your setup and this needs to be looked at. As you will see from the forum response this isn't affecting every iClone user. Obviously this doesn't lesson the feelings of frustration you are suffering because of it. As you have already explained, your problems started after installing SP3 from Microsoft. This is not a problem that was caused by iClone but by a problem that is affecting many people with SP3 and ATI cards many of which may not even own iClone. You also said in your previous post that Reallusion doesn't care. I can assure you that they do care but there is only so much that can be done from this end. If you haven't heard back from support yet I'm sure you will soon. But it's IClone that no longer works.Every other application I have still functions. Blame Microsoft, blame ATi, I do too. But I blame Reallusion too. Cause it's IClone that no longer works. When I first purchased IClone 7 months ago, I had to buy a new graphics card because the GeForce card I had wouln't work with IClone and there was NO ONE that could help me make it work. I then bought a new DELL Optiplex Quad processor (Intel true blue) with 2 gigs of RAM because IClone was such a dog on my old machine. So it's not like I'm not thousands of dollars into this. All to use IClone. And it's the application that no longer works. You say Reallusion cares? Can they make their product work on my machine? NO. It's microsoft's problem. But their OS works. It's ATi's problem, but with the exception of IClone, it delivers to every other application I own. It's NOT Reallusion's problem, right, but it's their product that doesn't function."Fix IClone yourself, Mr. Webb, it's not our fault." This is an accurate reflection of the state of things so far. But Reallusion cares, right?-blueI'm down three days and Ati support has responded. Not with anything close to help, but at least they sent a list of BIOS settings I should toggle (none of which is part of the bios choices I'm offered when I boot up). I'm down three days and Microsoft doesn't even acknowledge there's a problem (why should they, their OS works fine). Three days down and Reallusion's support is waiting for ATi or Microsoft to fix the problem while being as silent as they can be to their customers. I restored XP SP2, I reinstalled .NET framework 2.0 SP1 and 3.0, reinstalled the ATi Drivers, reinstalled Iclone, installed a thing called Driver Detective, a .net cleanup utility, etc., etc. I've gotten a support 'ticket' at ATi, told microsoft half a dozen times, posted on this forum and other forums about the problem and have .. come up completely - ZILCH!No one knows and no one cares. So ends IClone, not with a bang but a whimper, and a blue screen and lots of not caring from the vendors who already have my money. So now, I've just purchased a new Sapphire Radeon 3850, 1 Gig, card. It'll take five days to arrive. Who knows if it'll work any better, or come with different drivers, or if those drivers will work. No motion editor, means no toons in IClone. And since that SP3 update, I can't make IClone's motion editor work - and short of blowing away my WHOLE system and coming up from scratch (something that's too monumental a task to contemplate at the moment) I can't think of any more to do), I do know that the money I'd budgeted for an IClone 3.0 upgrade just got spent on something else, a graphics card. I know I'm real tired of all the manufacturers silence, bewilderment and blame passing. That's Microsoft, ATi AND Reallusion. Thanks guys, I hope one day I can repay the favor. I know I just downloaded Daz 2.2 with Lip-sync. I suspect no one at RL cares one way or the other.-blueIt's a rich man's tool, IClone and the systems and high end graphics needed to make it work. Normal people should NOT venture in .. they're mere sheep to be shorn by the 'corporate' money-grubbers who talk a decent game, but leave you high and dry when there's problems and only know how to spam email their 'BUY OUR CONTENT' sales pitches with any competence. (I guess I start by send out to the first 300 names on my mail list, right? Corporate Software Strikes Again! Hoooooray! ... sigh)-b

RE: IClone, SP3 and the blue screen of death

I've spent the last month suffering with the blue screen of death - finally got a new drive (threw away that ATI card) - slowly rebuilding and hoping I've overcome at last (internet's back at least - again) - I also thought I was doing a good thing by downloading the lasted service pack (3) - I hope I dodge that bullet by taking the ATI card out of the mix- at least we aren't alone with the blue screen of death.

RE: IClone, SP3 and the blue screen of death

As this seems a fairly widespread error with SP3 and ATI graphics chips it looks to be a problem out of Reallusion's hands right now. It is certainly something that needs to be looked at quickly but in the end it may require Microsoft to issue a fix through Windows Update. (or ATI to issue new drivers)</P><P>You could try sending a support request using the support form to see if anything is known about a fix for the problem. My machine upgraded to XP service pack 3 and now the motion editor throws the blue screen of death every time it's started. Even after, upgrading drivers, re-installing direct x 9.0c and trying to use it on only the default project with nothing else loaded into memory.Windows XP, SP3, ATi's radeon HD 2600 PRO, and the iclone motion editor combine to throw the blue screen of death because of ati3daug.dll stopping, address BF275B05 at BF185000, datestamp 48286321.I've searched around the net and find that gamers are getting this same error. No one seems to know what to do about it. What it does do is stops me in my tracks with IClone. $200 for seven months use of a tool just seems so wrong to me. I feel cheated. I haven't figured out just who yet, but MicroSoft, AMD and Reallusion are the contenders. Does anyone at Reallusion know how to correct this fiasco? Has anyone else noted the burn?-blue
