When working with demanding props and/or many characters, on low and medium quality settings after double clicking on a prop or character to move them about I get this.
The textures all jump into their raw condition. :)

It might be quite pleasant for a childs nursery rhyme set, like cards on a tree, :P
Are you aware of this?
It only happens when I click an object in the preview window to edit its x,y,z when Im in LOW or MEDIUM settings.

Workaround is to change bump or reflection etc each time and it clicks off. But I'd like to squash it completely.
Vcard is a top end Nvidea. System 4 gigs ram. 3kcpu. Windows XP. Just as was with earlier versions.

Firstly I must say that I am so releived that you have found it to be a bug in 2.5
and that it was not me or my computer that was at fault.

Yes that way merge instead of export to iclone has worked and a very big thank-you to you and your team for finding a work around the problem.

So for those that may be having the same problem this is what I did.

In the Main Iclone Motion Programme Folder I created a folder called Z My Motions only because it puts it at the bottom of the list and easy to find.

I then did a copy of all my motions in the Custom Motion Folder and pasted them in my newly created Z Motion Folder.

On opening Motion Editor you will then see your folder in The Editor which makes life much easier as you can now see the motion play and decide if thats the one you want.

The only drawback for me is that it does not recognise all the motions that have been made, but there is a way around it.

Those that are not showing in the Z Folder that you know are in your custom folder place in iclone on the character. Go into Motion Editor and click at the end of the motion and do as Visconti said click merge. You then save that Motion in your Z Folder it should say that this Motion already exists but say yes to overright. Next time you open Motion Editor this should then show up as being recognised.
Now I seem to have an aweful lot that are not showing but it will be worth it at the end to be able to see them in the little preview window to decide if thats the one you want.
There seem to be a slow responce from the thumbnails some greyed out and some half displayed and some a lovely shade of blue, but I can live with that.
I hope that you have found this useful.

Here is an example to show you the difference of Motion Editor between 2.x and 2.5 .
In the past, we are used to select "export to iClone" to save our custom motion.
And you will save the custom file into your "custom library".

In iClone 2.5, the saved file (by "export to iClone") can't be re-edited in Motion Editor.
For example, it will fail when you try to import the pre-saved motion file to timeline.
But it can still be applied to characters in iClone itself.
To achieve the same result in 2.5, you can simply use "merge" in stead of "export to iClone".

Please note that the files will be saved in "Template library" after merging.
So, you can easily drag the file to your timline for edit.

As I know, this is a necessary update for the next coming engine of motion editor.
But it will be seen as a bug in 2.5 for sure.
At present, we suggest you use "merge" to get the same result.
If there's any update version like 2.5x or 2.x to fix it, I will let you know.

We got answers!!
After adding some enhanced features in 2.5, the motion editor will work differently to previous versions.
This is also a pre-set for the next version.

Our product manger is capturing a video for you to explain how to get the same result by other approach in 2.5.
It will be finished tomorrow and worth sharing with everyone here too.

Due to the use of contents with high quality textures in iClone 2.5, it may cause your computer loading havily.

Please go to "preference" and try to set the preview mode as below:

Your final render quality won't be affected, and you can keep the best export quality in video tag.

Hi all...I too am having an issue, but none like you have experienced. 2.5 runs Fantastic on my comp but what is frustrating is the exporting now. All my AVI's do not export correctly and now crash my movie maker and have a hard time finishing clips. It is only the new files since the upgrade. All the old 2.1 exports are running fine. RL help?

Just to keep you informed the version you sent did not resolve the problem.

Motion Editor will still not recognise any new Motions that I make. Can see the temp chbs in the ME Temp Folder but thats it. Its like its not talking with iclone as if something is missing in the set up structure that is supposed to let the one know what the other is doing.

Especially to the patch (from 2.1 to 2.5)
We are glad to hear more of your voices.

Duchess, we are very curious about your situation because there's no code programming in the part of Motion Editior in 2.5. So...you can't use any of your previous custom motion files? Can your Motion Editor work well?

We will let you know if there's any update info.

well looks like RL pulled through for me - per thier advise, i uninstalled 2.1 and installed 2.5 fresh, now everything works beautifully!

I must be lucky, I have had no problems with 2.5 - touch wood - and my computer spec is almost the same as Nigel's except I have just 1GB ram and a NVidia geForce5200 graphics card. With computer specs likely to differ and some working fine and others not it just has to be down to hardware but then software has to work with all hardware - within known limitations - I know, nothing like stating the obvious.

I hope my comments were not taken the wrong way about the new 2.5 I am delighted with the new features and like shygirl eagerly await version 3.

Its just that if you look at the work I have done in the past a lot is heavily based on motion so will be pleased to hear asap as to a solution you come up with as to why the chb files are not being recognised.

This is really a good lesson for Reallusion.
We will keep work on if our program incompatible with some system or spec.
It's really depressing to have people stuck using our products.

I for one love iClone and would always persevere with 'teething problems'. However, I can totally understand the frustration of the few people who are experiencing difficulty. I would be devastated to have some of the issues mentioned. I am sure Reallusion will be doing their best to investigate any problem areas and provide a 'fix' as swiftly as possible.

I'm looking at the 'big picture' and envisioning where iClone will be in a few months after the release of version 3.0.

Have patience, when all is fixed it will be like childbirth........the pain will be forgotton in the pleasure received from using the software.

I wasn't able to read your reply as the RL forum was not displaying messgaes properly I could only read the first 4 words.

I will certainly send you my direct X file but I am afraid it won't change my mind. It seems every time I install something from RL there is a problem with it and quite frankly I am sick and tired of it. I do aprreciate your offer of help but I am afraid it is a case of too little too late.

When I tried to install the 2.5 patch (upgrade) I got an error message saying "Transfer error unknown error" so I uninstalled 2.1 (whilst connected to the internet to save one of my 5 lives) I then installed the full 2.5 version. Everything is now working perfectly including the horse pack I purchased. I am running Windows XP, pentium 4, 3.06 ghz proccessor. 2 gb ram, Nvidia series 7 graphics card, direct X 9.0c. :D

Obviously, there're some issues about crashes, motion files and etc.
The product team has heard your requests and will help you out ASAP.

Gabe, you can try another full version (you can find the link in your mail box) to see if the problem exists.

Shalako, I am sorry to hear about your experience. As I know, I requested your directX info for product team's reference (to be sent to my mail box or support team) a week ago. Did you send the file to the support team, or I missed something? Please let me know if I can of any further assist.

Well after a frustrating week of trying to repair my computer(2 months old) after downloading the patch from this site to no avail I was left with no other option but to reformat the HD. Restored to perfect working order with no other programs on it Just Windows XP I reinstalled IClone and updated it to 2.5 and yes guess what it didn't work. Still no thumbnails and program crashes and locks up. All drivers checked and are up to date. However I have found the solution I have UNISTALLED IClone and won't be reinstalling it ever again. I am fed up with having to install patch after patch which sometimes work or not. I for one will not be purchasing any more RL products or installing them on my computer. Its not worth the heartaches.

Hello Duchess & Aknzrdude, Hope the world is otherwise smiling for you both.

Visconti, Here Aknzr has an issue that, for me, dissappeared with v.2.5. faces and lighting is a treat now.

My peculiarity is that

A) 2.5 tells me I have too many 3d objects and it wont save the project.

(My workaround, in case anyone else is suffering this also, is to
Make a custom folder for the props and accessories
Save them with a name according to their project name
Delete them from the current scene
Save the scene/project with this reduction in 3D objects
Then, on reloading the project, reload all the compnents from their respective custom folder where they reappear in their correct place and size. )

This saves me having to slide them about x,y,z-wise and saves hours of repositioning.

This didnt happen in 2.x

Otherwise, everything else shines. :)

My big headache with the new 2.5 is that it will not read some of the motion files that I have made in the past and some that I have made only today. When I try and take them into motion editor via the add motion option it states that it has no motion files. Its just not recognising the chb files. What can I do to remedy this as it is so frustrating that I cannot bring in various motions to string together to create a motion to suit the project that I am working on.

headaches with 2.5

while i love the features that came with 2.5, it's been nothing but headaches for me. Since i upgraded, i have had multiple crashes of iclone and times when iclone managed to run, motion editor does not launch. My productivity has gone down big time where i can't even animate. Now on the occasions where i can run iclone, making props ia about all i can do. I can't even render pictures right without it coming out in a mess. See the enclosed picture - the lighting was red on the left and blue on the right, but when i render only the body shows the lighting, the face takes on a weird halloween look to it -washed out and no light applied - help reallusion!!!

note i applied the 2.5 upgrade to 2.1
