I have been making my project with Magix Video Pro and finally bought it.
Now it says I need to activate something to get the Mpeg4 videos I had on there before I purchased it.
I went to activate it and it says I need to call long distance overseas to get a code. I tried to do it online and they give me an error message and won't go any farther.
Now then. Do I change the way I render with iClone and render it in a different format to avoid this or do I need to make the long distance call to somewhere?
I am at a loss with this as I had the project finished for the first part.

Ken,

Everything can be activated on-line.

Read through the MAGIX Technical Help Page.

Click on "Additional activations" in the list shown on the left - they even have videos explaining how to do it.

By KenCoon - 10 Years Ago
That's where the problems begin.
I clicked on online activation and it gave me an error Code-10 and told me to contact Customer Service.
They really don't have a "Customer Service" except calling on the phone. I looked all through that site for a way to email them and couldn't find one. I went through it several times.
It would be nice if things worked out that way they tell you in the video but they don't for me.
Thanks.

Have you looked at this page?

A quote from the FAQs

Some of our products may prompt you to activate additional codecs (MPEG2, MPEG4, Dolby Sound or AVCHD). These functions are required for the software to be able to read and write the video or audio format you are trying to use. The activations are there due to licencing purposes with the original developers of the codecs.
Normally the codec can simply be ordered by selecting the Order Online option. Here, you will be asked to login with your registered Email address and the activation code will be sent to your email.

Have you registered your product with them?

By KenCoon - 10 Years Ago
The product is registered. I did that first.
The problem came because I had saved the files from iClone in MP4. This requires a free activation of a codec in Magix. When I tried to activate it following the screens it said it failed and gave me an error-10. It then said to contact Customer service.
I found out rather quickly there is no way to contact Customer Service except by long distance Phone.
I didn't want to add another program (Skype) to my computer right now so I changed the format they were saved from iClone to WMV and they went into the program. I now have it done with the WMV files and am going to shut down for the night.
I may try again to activate the CODEC tomorrow if it will let me. If not, I will find a way to text them and wait for an answer while I render the iClone files in WMV format unless that gives me more problems down the road.
Thanks for all the help.

Hi Ken,
the MP4 from IClone may be the issue. My experience comes from Iclone 5 but it may be still true in IClone 6: The MP4 Codec from RL is "MP4 for PC". Please use a SW to check the video codec structure like e.g. MediaInfo. It should be "MPEG4 (H.264)".
My IClone 5 workaround is to use AVI 25 Frames uncompressed. I let the Magix Videodeluxe then do the work to transfer them (in batch mode) to a codec supported by VDL.
Greetings,
Gerhard

That is pretty much what I am doing now.
I changed the render in iClone to WMV and rendered them that way and then they were accepted in Magix.
There is an authentication possible in Magix but they may be on their weekend.
I have it working for me now so I will stay with that arrangement until I can find a way to get the CODEC working in Magix.
Thanks for the help.
By the way. Yes, I do get a pension check. I am 74 years old for the smart guy with the snotty remark that wants to run the forum.
This problem may be one that present or future owners of iClone6 may have when trying to make movies with i|Clone6.
Thanks again.

Yep I had a check and it is MP4 h.264. It's the standard for Quicktime and a codec that is commonly used for video; strange that it cannot be opened in Magix.

The issue is that Magix licenses the codecs from someone else, and so has them locked when you initially purchase their editor. If you have the right license (there are different versions), they let you unlock the codecs with an online process. So something just hasn't cleared through properly, or the version Ken has does not allow for the MP4 codec.

I have the "Pro Plus"version, and it does allow it. There is a non "Plus" version that may not. I think the naming may be different now as well. My copy is a few years old.

@Ken
WMV is a fine choice! I often use it. Set the quality to maximum in iClone when you export, so you'll get the best footage possible in Magix.

I notice that WMV has Ultra HD too. :) MP4 does not, but that could be changed.

Regarding the nat woi comment.

Jeez, I thought I was the forum moron around here... but it appears I have been dethroned.

Ken,
Your enthusiasm as a newbie is refreshing on this forum.
Problems you encounter and bring forward are things many of us encounter.
Keep asking those questions:)
Keep being the guy unafraid to raise his hand in class.
I for one benefit greatly from the solutions brought forward by fellow members.

the beauty of this forum imo - is people from all walks of 3D life getting together and helping each other without the ego.

Most other places I've gone on the net, usually have Pros looking down on noobs. Everyone is equal in iclone in that we focus on our love of art and share it.

Iclone brings the community back to a world where the competition is heavy and ruthless.

So it is encouraged from everyone from the company to user - to keep this spirit of community because the progress we can make together is immense.

I'm convinced that the worlds next steven spielberg is in this forum, but we have to create a sacred ground for him/ them to come out.

Dear Mr/Ms future Super Director - your pro audio guy has been here clearing the way for you!

Gee, you make me want to be younger again. Too late for that.
Anyway, After several attempts to get this straightened out at Magix, I finally decided to take it off my computer and then re install it again. I am doing that now.
I bought it over the weekend and things may have been messed up because of the licensing and authentication issues.
I also began with the trial edition which treats the codecs differently.
I am hoping a clean install will solve the problem. If not, I guess I won't be using the Mpeg4 files there.
I have Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Plus. It should have everything I need and be able to authenticate it for me.
We shall see. If I finally find the solution, I will let you know so anyone else having that problem will be able to fix it.
One of the reasons I wanted the software is that they allow you to make Tutorials (If I ever get that good.)
Ken:)

Hope you get it sorted out Ken! Can't wait to see what you come up with!:P
By KenCoon - 10 Years Ago
That fixed it. Apparently you cannot activate the codecs if you have the trial version downloaded.
It did manage to activate the program with the trial but when you try to do anything with the Mpeg4 files it will always direct you to the online activation and then give you an error.
After I took everything off the computer and then reloaded and installed the program they tell you when you purchase it, everything will work fine.
Hope this helps anyone in the future having this problem.

Can anyone who uses Magix tell me if I really need all of those additional things they have me downloading? It looks like it is going to take a few days non stop to get them all loaded.

Apart from Video & Audio CODECS supplied & Installed by Windows OS, all others Installed by NLE Programs, are paid for by NLE Program Developers to the CODECS relevant Developers, on  a single usage basis. Hence the Activation Keys.

That is - They only pay for the CODECS used.

Get it? Got it? Good ;)

I was referring to the 5800GB of templates and Title things along with fades and things like that which are in the Additional things in the Help menu.
I finally have the Codecs so I am okay there now.
Thanks
Ken:)
I am heading up tp put my boy to sleep soon so I will be on my Kindle later.

It's not 5800 GB but "just" MB :) = 5,8 GB.

Most of it is probably irrelevant for you (if you use the program only to iClone bible stories and publish them on the net)

Eg "Menu templates" are for making menus for DVDs. "Movie templates" are mostly just some smart things for home videos. "Slideshow maker" is for making slide shows from fotos...

I suggest you download "Fade effects" and "Title effects" - and if you want an easy way to get simple background music, then "Soundtrack Maker styles" also.

"Design elements" are mostly just for fun, but there a couple useful things included. "NewBlue Titler" can make special titles, but is a bit difficult to use, i think.

Agreed.  I don't know Magix, but you probably don't need a lot of fancy add-ons.

99% of transitions are cut/fade/dissovle.

Very rarely you might use a wipe/push (slide to the side, or top-to-bottom).

Video editor programs love to advertise their 850 stunning transition effects.  :w00t:  For home movies of your vacation it can be fun to use stars, hearts, fireworks, and stuff like that.  But for any "move" it's just going to be cuts and maybe fades/dissolves.

For titles, a simple "scroll up" will be about as fancy as you need to get, and you can even do fine without that.

I'm looking forward to your next "Ruth" work-in-progress update.

Hi Ken,
I realize that your "Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Plus" is different from my "Magix Video Deluxe 2015 Premium"; it is good to hear that you can work with it. I would always recommend the "Plus" version compared to the basic version since it comes with all the needed features and codecs on board. Install everything and test it! The "Premium Version" comes with more plugins; it depends on your / my liking.
Greetings,
Gerhard

I think "Movie Edit Pro" and "Video Deluxe" are the same program, just different name for different markets?

There are some differences between basic and "Plus" version. But "Plus" and "Premium" versions are same, except some extra plugins from an external producent comes with "Premium".

even better - all the more we can help each others
By KenCoon - 10 Years Ago
Thanks everyone for all the help.
I managed to download the effects and the title making stuff. The rest is there in case I want it later.
Now I can get back to making the rest of my storyline for the movie. I am about half way through that part now.
You have all helped me a lot and kept me on the right track through all of this.
I did note that Magix help is not much help. I had contacted them and all they really told me was that I should run their syscheck which I did twice. The first time they suggested I didn't do it and the second time they said they didn't get the results. They are more worried about their little syscheck program than my software.
I finally came to the conclusion that I needed to get rid of the trial version which they authenticated and download the program again. Everything worked after that.
Thanks again.
Ken:)
