Im not sure is someone has suggested this. Ive noticed that when adding characters to the timeline, the names defaults to char 0 char 1, etc Why not allow the user to name the char to easily select them?
Ive had 4 charac in one scene and had to memorize which one to select if I wanted to edit their motions

Hi,
When you press CTRL-F7, just change the name in the box from Character 0 to whatever name you want and press Enter/Return. Do the same with all additional characters and they will appear in the timeline with the new names.

That's great news, I'm glad I came across this post as I often have up to 10 characters on screen and have had to go through them all to find the one I want to move.
Thanks great little tip.

another way i use is to open the character timeline, look for something called track list, this is a drop down menu, i click each character there and it gets added on the timeline so next time i need to select a character, i just go to the timeline and click on the character name
