I want custom content (apparel, shoes, accessories, props and scenes), but I'm not familiar with any 3D graphic software like 3D Studio Max. 

If I bought, 3D graphics in 3ds form and used 3d studio max exchange to convert them for iClone, would that work?

What graphic program can I use to create custom hairstyles? Can I use one of the change programs to put it in my iClone library?

Hi,

To create clothing and shoes for iClone you have CloneCloth which enables you to create all types of clothing and shoes without the need for any 3D modelling at all. All you will require is an image editor and a basic understanding texture mapping.

For props and accessories I would say get 3DXchange if you can. There is a huge number of 3D models available on the net, many of which are totally free. You can build a massive prop library for next to nothing after you purchase 3DXchange and won't even need to open up a 3D modeller to do so. If you do fancy creating your own stuff then again with 3DXchange you can use any 3D modeller to create and bring in your work with 3Dxchange.

Note: With the imminent release of 3Dxchange 2.0 you will be able to import models from the Google 3D Warehouse into iClone too.

With hair it is a little more difficult. If you have 3DS Max you can create iClone compatible hair with ease, but without it you have a couple of options. Use 3DXchange to convert hair from places such as Daz or Renderosity and fit them as accessories in iClone or you can create your own hair models and import them via 3DXchange also.

One other way of getting new hairstyles is to edit the opacity maps of existing hairstyles within iClone and create new variations such as shortening, thinning out etc. This process doesn't require any 3D modelling experience but you will need to understand how hair is texture mapped first which can be a little confusing at first.

Could you elaborate on this? I am trying to create the hairdo of my nephew to go with his charater ive made and am adequate at using 3ds max 9.0

How would I create a hairdo in max mimicking his real life do and then import it as hair into iclone 2.0 (about to install 2.5 patch).

I also have crazy talk 4.6 if that is relevant to the task.

Check out the document Creating Characters For iClone available from the Developer Center. This covers the required procedures for creating hair in Max. Apart from that it is down to your skills as a modeller to create the actual hair mesh. Start with something fairly simple till you get the hang of it using the template head to build the hairstyle on.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Sorry to be a pain but you couldnt link to the page you are refering to could you? I have gone through a million pages but cant seem to find the part you are talking about (probably right in front of my eyes!).

Creating hair is a big part of what I would like to do so it would help me out if you could.
