The answer is Layers.
Each object placed on the stage is in it's own layer. Any layer (i.e. object) can be either in front of or behind another layer. You can place a prop (Guitar) on the stage either in front of or behind a character but not between the characters body parts.
A character is made up of various sub-layers (i.e. body parts) but on the stage it is basically a single layer. You can not place another object, on the stage, in between those sub layers of the character.
You can add Props to the characters sub layers by taking the character to Composer Mode and adding the prop there. Then you can adjust the various body parts to be in front of or behind other body parts and props as needed.
