So far I can see by pressing the Ctrl_F7 key, opens up an opportunity to add a new character to a project but it defaults to Character 0 (my current character in a timeline) when I try to type in the name of a new character, it always picks the wrong (and consistent) character for (1) - I've even renamed my character to fit that but nothing happens.  I've printed out the instructions and so far not enough info for this major beginner to get the idea.  I want to add a specific character to a current project and control her movement and postion separate without changing the current character and motion.  I a complete dunce so far.  Can someone put me on the right path quickly???

Hi,

With your existing character in the scene, hit Ctrl_F7, add new character.....and then, from your modify panel, double click the character you want added.  This will result in both your characters being in the scene.  You can move between the characters to add motion, accessories etc.  You can add more characters in the same way.

Hope this helps

Shy

You are so kind, Shy, and I am so frustrated.  Here's what happens:  After I have my first character in the scene and press Ctrl+F7, a character selection panel opens up w/only character0 (the one in the scene first).  The only other think I can do is select "add" and it automatically adds a character1 of a character I did not choose or want and places it immediately behind character0.  It does not allow me to go to the character/modify panel and add my choice character.  I've tried selecting "character1" after the character panel closes, the go to the customized character list and double click the one I want, an additional (but same) character 1 shows up, now I have 3, main character0 (I want him); character1 (I don't want her) and character2 (I don't want character1's duplicate either) ALL MUSHED TOGETHER.  What on earth am I doing wrong?  I appreciate your willingness to help - I am sooo frustrated and can't move forward with my project.  Please help me

Hi Motherreiver,

Here is an explanation of the process in pictures using Jane and Jack as an example. I hope this makes it a little clearer.

First start with the Default Jane Character.

Press CTRL-F7 to bring up the Character Selection Panel. Rename Character 0 to Jane and press Return (You must press Return/Enter) and then Close.

Now from Avatar - Character - Modify, move Jane 65 to the left so we can make room for our next character.

Press CTRL-F7 again and select Add to put another character into the scene. You should have a scene like below. Now rename this second character to Jack (I know it isn't Jack yet) and hit Return and then Close.

With the new character still selected go to Avatar - Character - Template and choose Jack from the G2 Default folder and click Apply. You will then have a scene like below. If you press CTRL-F7 again you will see that the two characters are in the scene and correctly named. From here you can repeat the process and add more characters if you wish.

Once you have more than one character in the scene you can select them to add motions, move them etc by double clicking in the scene so that they have the yellow surround box around them or press CTRL-F7 and choose the character from the drop down list.

YeeHaw! I get it (finally); after reading your post I tried it and was able to add numerous characters to a scene.

May I intrude and ask ONE more question?  After making about 4 separate and distinct projects that I plan to export individually, I find that my main character, whenever I change her position in the new scene sequence - she doesn't stay put!  She does the motion I ask, but invariable she moves out of the scene out of the bottom and I don't know how to make her stay put!  How can I control this and keep her in place?  Thank you again, I'm struggling with this but I'm getting better at it hour by hour - I appreciate this forum and all the good people here.

I'm pleased to hear you were able to master adding new characters to the scene. These things can take a while to get at first.

With regards to the character moving out the bottom of the window, I'm assuming you mean the motion you are using is a walking or moving motion and the character moves out of the scene window. In this instance you have a few options. If you want a static scene then simply move the view back so that the entire animation remains in view. You could also use one of the preset cameras which may give a better view of the scene.

A better way would be to use the camera to track the character as they move, and this can be done using the camera timeline. From here it is easy to move the camera to follow the character in the scene anywhere they go.

Oh, actually, I should have read your reply a little more carefully before I responded; actually, I have her standing still and she drifts away when I play the scene!  I have 4 characters in this scene and they all stay put, dancing in place and whatnot, but my main character just drifts down and out of the picture even from a "standing still" pose.  What else should I look and and what the heck did I do wrong??  Thank you so much for replying
