I am so glad people spend their time researching "mundane" things like how people breath.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to have "breathing" as part of an avatar's persona?  And similar to how you can have facial expressions, wouldn't it be cool to be able to have an avatar "pant" or inhale to blow out the candles on a birthday cake?

 

Or how about the "adaptive clothing" shown here (1:11 to 1:21).  Wouldn't that be handy?

Jimmy Toons has a Breathing motion as a default. A lot of people don't know it, but it is a good start.

Thanks for the tip, Cricky.  I don't use Jimmy Toons so I never knew that.

Semi-hijacking my own thread, here's another "clothing" video.  All this stuff will eventually make its way to what we do.  Won't it be great when stuff like clothing "just works" without us really having to think about it?

It's one thing to be able to do the modeling, but another to make it real-time.

It's a bit subtle at first, but a key feature they're showing is the cloth's mesh is more coarse when it's not in view, and then becomes more refined when the camera is looking at it.  That makes this more efficient to render.  See the color-coding on the wireframe models when they show the field of view of the camera.
