It's kind of sad that Poser has these stability problems. Actually, from what I recall when I started working with it many years ago, it wasn't that unstable back then, just slow. I've had stability issues with recent versions also and had just given up. Maybe if Poser gets used by Unity developers they will be more vocal about instability.

if they can fix it, this is one helluva tool now with the fbx import /export. rigging is still better in carrara though, especially now that poser auto-groups fbx rig on import... - crashes and all, if you have the patience for it - i think it's worth looking into and sending disgruntled letters to sm to fix it. lol. I have to test out the bvh export to see if it got any better. - still downloading the content - to see if there is anything new.

I'm interested how the fbx import and export works especially without native Poser content , and of course how works the kinect Maybe Poser will get a completely new meaning with this Dev version for me? I will see, if SM release Demo Videos or a Demo Version of this DEV Poser Version

so far the only rigs that seem to import with the least issues are in the poser / daz / carrara family - but even then clothing, eyes, teeth, tongue, and hair come in out of alignment - i'm starting to see that the smith micro group are closer to lightwave in rig styles than autodesk - I imported a make human rigged character - the rig was broken and the bones were all pointing upward - I ran the file through the lightwave demo - re-exported the fbx and re-imported it to poser - the bones were now facing the right direction but apparently not properly aligned with the mesh. ( that said, it's good to have the lightwave demo to correct rigs!! even in explorer mode ) The good thing about the fbx import is apparently it takes the weight mapping from the rig and makes them into groups - making groups for rigging was a time consuming task - adding bones was quick - so at the very least the fbx import makes rigging in poser that much easier - at least till they fix the fbx import to be more compatible with autodesk like rigs. So this is "Almost" a great thing, but I feel like I purchased a beta. I'd only recommend this to an advanced user that has other tools, to take advantage of all the cool things poser does with morphs and clothes, without being trapped into it's unstable workflow.

Do you have tested the DEV Version, because the is very new (only few Days old ) A new version of Poser with the following improvements.
1. New Polygon Reduction system 2. Figure combining - bake serveral figures/props into one 3. Unseen Polygon Removal- automatically or manually 4. Kinect for Windows® device support 5. Robust import or export of FBX data, including fully rigged and animated 3D Poser characters

Hi Planetstardragon, Just wondering how you were getting on with the poser pro game dev, theres a good offer on renderosity website at the moment and as I have pro 2010 it would not cost me much to upgrade, but there are so few reviews I am not sure. the poly reduction tool and Kinect appeal to me a lot.
Any feedback would be appreciated
Kind regards

Here is a statement from a Poser User In general, I see a problem when free tools are better than the paid ones. Although I am a veteran Poser user, I find the content creation tools in DS4.6 way superior to those of Poser Pro 2014, and they cost me nothing to install and use. I was rather shocked when I found myself having a better experience rigging new figures and conforming clothing in DS than I did in Poser Pro. This shouldn't happen when DS4 is free (including CCT tools), while Poser Pro costs hundreds. Maybe it's just me, but I personally believe Poser Pro has a moral obligation to be BETTER than DS4, even if just because we are paying for it, and it's not cheap

The pros I enjoy about poser dev - the clothing tools are cool, the render is nice, the hair tools are interesting, and it has a nice stock library.... other than that , it's unstable, the rigging is not fun to do at all and has extra steps. I spent a whole day just doing their grouping ( an extra step in rigging ) - in an attempt to get a finished rig done in their system - after many hours of tedious frustrating tweaks, it crashed, and since it doesn't have auto save, all was lost. It's instability is really painful, it only imports daz fbx rigs correctly, the dae export is better than the fbx. The crashing is so bad, that if I click on the set up tab in an empty project, the software crashes ( learned that one just looking around the software when I first got it ) at this point, i'm actually jaded to use it because on almost every occasion, it's crashed when i had any character looking halfway decent, I've even had trouble and crashed building one of their stock characters with stock clothing. I don't regret the purchase because I got it at a really low promo price, and their stock library and clothing tools kept the purchase from being a total loss. If i had purchased it at their normal price, i'd want my money back.

Hi Planetstardragon. In the little 3d work I've done lately, Poser 10 has been top of my list. I've been working through the various figures, old and new, that come with the program and have had some results (from dialling morphs to change proportions) that I'm very pleased with. When you started this thread Poser was a program I had left out in the cold since I bought it but now I like it very much. I don't experience the constant crashing you refer to but it does freeze on me quite regularly. (I click on things and the interface is dead). But every time I just minimise the window and Poser comes back to life when I maximise it again.
